This week’s edition of ‘Where the road takes me’, is the concluding programme which looks at the age old Irish sport of road bowling.
In programme two, author Noel Magnier joins us to continue the story of Mick Barry, one of road bowling’s greatest heroes.
We meet Derry Kenny from the Boothouse bar in White’s Cross. As a twenty three year old in 1963, and suffering from a leg injury, Derry surprised everybody by winning the Munster Senior bowling championship, and went on to contest the very first All Ireland final in road bowling
Chairperson of Bol Cumann Susan Greene speaks about how women have integrated into road bowling, and how the association intends to meet the many challenges facing the sport today.
Declan o’Donovan from Bandon tells us how he and his brother-in-law won senior and junior All Ireland titles together in 1986 on Cathedral road in Armagh.
