Eily’a Report – 6th December

eily-report-small-image

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly Report.

A very important meeting was held at the Wallis arms Hotel on last Tuesday night. Organised by the Community Council the meeting was called to renew the Text Alert System in the area. Three members of the Garda Siocana attended and addressed the meeting. Local Garda Paul Lynch gave a detailed account of  their work in the Millstreet area, first commenting  on how good the town looked to the visitor and praised the Community for the manner in which they take care of their town. He also said that Millstreet stands out as a place almost free of crime and bad behaviour. He went on to advise the meeting on the importance of having details of all their property. So that if stolen it can be returned to its owner. They have by  large stocks of goods which were recovered in many parts of the country but due to lack of identity, they cannot be reclaimed by the rightful owners.

Garda Inspector Brian Murphy, spoke and said that the Garda Siocana need the help of the community to carry out their work, and asked people to let them know if they see or experienced anything suspicious. Community Garda Johnnie Crowley, went on to advice the public on all aspects of security and gave out numbers to contact in case of emergency. But the best number to ring is 999, a number that is answered every time.

Everybody  paid €10 and signed up again  to Text Alert System, for the coming year. Before the meeting closed  there was time for  informal chat with the three Garda which plays a big part in breaking down the barriers.

A fundraising Coffee morning was held in the Garda Station a few weeks ago, and raised €1,500 for the Hospice.
