Local Competitors Success at Moonraker Forestry Rally

The Moonraker Forestry Rally which took place last Saturday April 8th was the 2nd Round of the Valvoline Forestry Championship,the Rally which was  based at the Abbey Hotel in Ballvourney and oraganised by Munster Car Club who laid on 8 Challenging Stages around Mullaghanish and the surrounding areas on what turned out to be a
very dry day which made for sometimes quite dusty conditions,once
again there were some Local Competitors taking part with last years
winners Desi Henry and Ballydaly Co-Driver Liam Moynihan leading the
Field away,while they didn`t repeat last years Victory this time
around they still finished a fine 4th overall at the end, Tom
Murphy and his Co-Driver Kieran O`Donoughue in there Ford Escort Mk2 had a great Run and at the end of the Rally they emerged victorious in Class 10,Grace O`Brien from Dromtariffe was the Co-Driver in the Class 9 winning Vauhall Nova which was driven by Ruari Maguire from Tyrone, John O`Sullivan from Boherbue driving his Fiesta finished 5th in Class 16,Ballvourneys Ciaran Creedon driving a Honda Civic and Co-Driven by John Murphy had a great run and finished 2nd in Class 11F,
Danny Creedon and Derry Healy in there Subaru Impreza had to
retire on Stage 2 due to a Mechanical Issue but returned under
Rally 2 Rules to have a great run and finish 6th in Class 15,there
was no luck for Ger Cullinane who had to retire after 4 Stages
while going well in his Toyota Starlet,The Rally had 81 starters
which is a record amount of Competitors taking part in a Forestry
Event in recent years and was won by Keith Cronin in a Fiesta R5
who was in turn followed Home by Josh Moffett Fiesta R5 in second
place with his Brother Sam Moffett Fiesta WRC finishing in 3rd
place overall in what was a closely contested Battle at the Top End
of the Field. The 2wd Battle was won by David Crossan in a Ford Escort MK2,Out of the 81 Crews that started the Event 65 made it back to the Finish Line after a tough days Competition.

Best of Luck to Shane and Evan this evening

The very best of luck to Shane Hickey (Millstreet) and Evan Murphy (Dromtarriffe) who take part in this evening’s Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Championship Quarter-Final for Cork against Tipperary this evening in Thurles.

Evan is picked at centre forward while Shane is listed amongst the subs.

Cork v Tipperary, Wednesday 12th April, 2017 @ 7pm, at Semple Stadium, Thurles, extra time if necessary.

Result: Cork 3-21 Tipperary 1-8 🙂

The Cork football team for tonight’s Munster Minor Championship v Tipperary in Semple Stadium, Thurles @ 7pm has been announced and can be seen on the Cork GAA website

Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Fund Scheme 2017

Good news for Millstreet Town this week with confirmation of funding for a number of organisations based in Millstreet Town and surrounding areas as part of the 2017 Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Fund Scheme.
Organisations funded are as follows:

  • Millstreet Tidy Towns – €1,800
  • Ballydaly Action 2000 Group – €10,000
  • Kilcorney Community Development Association – €1,500
  • Millstreet Pitch & Putt Club – €300
  • St. John’s Well Committee – €3,000

Millstreet Town will also have the benefit from an additional allocation of €14,000 from Cork County Council’s Town Development Fund during 2017 which will be allocated following consultation with Millstreet Partnership Committee. Well done to all involved! – from Cllr. John Paul O’Shea

Death Notice: Denis O’Leary, Islanddave

The death has occurred of Denis O’Leary, formerly of Islanddave Boherbue and Coolclougher, Boherbue, who passed away peacefully in his 92nd year at the residence of his nephew John and Betty Corcoran. Son of the late Timothy and Julia and dear brother of the late Michael, Jerry, Timmie, John, Nora Mai (Lordan), Sheila (Corcoran), Peggy (Alford), Mary (Donovan) and recently deceased Eileen (Sheehan). Sadly missed by his nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives, kind neighbours and his many friends in the Canon O’Donovan Day Centre, Millstreet. May he rest in peace.
Rosary on today, Tuesday, at 10 p.m. at his nephew’s residence, Coolclougher. Reposing on Wednesday at his nephew’s residence from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by removal to Derrinagree Church. Liturgy of the Word on Thursday at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in Kiskeam Cemetery. Memorial Mass on Monday in Derrinagree Church at 7.30pm.

Millstreet Vintage Club on RTÉ’s “Nationwide” Tonight at 7pm

On Sat. 1st April RTÉ’s “Nationwide” Team visited Millstreet to film over 40 Ford Tractors for a Ford Centenary feature which will be broadcast tonight (Wednesday, 12th April 2017)at 7pm on RTÉ1 television. Here we view (in centre) Anne and Dan Barry with the RTÉ Team at the conclusion of filming in the exquisite setting of Drishane Estate. Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)
