Millstreet Visit put back to September

Recently, about twenty members of the Pommerit-Millstreet twinning committee attended the AGM of the association. After the approval of the moral and financial report in 2017, a report was made of the meetings of departmental and regional Brittany-Ireland twinning committees. The observation is obvious. “Many committees are in survival and the future is very uncertain.”

With its 26 members, the Pommerit committee is doing pretty well and keeps its dynamism. After the re-election of the office, it was decided to renew the activities organized during the last season. The boules contest will take place on the weekend of April 28th and 29th. The association will participate in the Telethon.

For reasons of availability, the stay in Ireland, originally scheduled for late June, has been postponed after the summer holidays. The departure is scheduled for Friday, September 14 for a return on Sunday, September 23. This stay is open to all.  [from ouest-france.fr]

 

Death Notice: Eily Riordan, Carriganima

The death has occurred on Sunday 18th March 2018 of Eileen (Eily) RIORDAN (née Twomey), Knockraheen, Carriganima, Cork. Unexpectedly, in the presence of her loving family in ICU at Cork University Hospital. Sister of the late John Twomey. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her loving husband William, daughter Nora, son Jerry, son-in-law Jimmy, grandaughter Elaina, sister Margaret, nephews, nieces, in-laws, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Reposing in St John the Baptist Church, Carriganima, on Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 8pm followed by rosary. Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 12 noon, followed by burial to St Colman’s Cemetery, Macroom. Family flowers only, by request. [1]

Eily’s Report – 20th March

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly report.

As always the wheel of Millstreet keeps on turning and this past week was no exception. We had our St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a mountain climb, West Cork Rally, plus a mighty Rave Concert on Sunday at the Green Glens, attended by over 4000 revellers, to name but a few. And all went off without any bad incidents or injury. Baoichas le Dia.

Our St. Patricks Day Parade was made special as the one and only couple Daniel O’Donnell and Majella dropped in to be our Grand Marshals as part of their their countrywide travels to film their popular RTE program, “Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip.” A certain amount of confidentiality surrounds all these things and all I can say is that you’ll be seeing it on your screens in a few months time.

We were blessed with a cold but dry afternoon, and the crowds turned out in the thousands to cheer our renowned guests. Ireland’s win over England earlier in the day had them well psyched up for the parade at 5 o’clock and the pubs and food outlets, and taxis etc. did a roaring trade.
