Eily’s Report – 21st August

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde and welcome.

So much has been happening,it’s hard to know where to start.

Even though we all need some rain right now, we were delighted that all of our activities were blessed with fine weather over the weekend. Here in Millstreet our Summer Horse Show held precedent over everything else. The mighty Green Glens was bursting at the seams to cater for the increased numbers of entries for this year’s event. Hundreds of extra stabling was added to the existing 1600 places, and extra space had to be provided in the grounds to accommodate the huge horse carriers that brought the influx of beautiful horses that came. The facility was ablaze with colour, multicoloured fences and literally thousands of flower boxes and pots of every ilk. The crowds matched the scene and competitions went on almost around the clock in order to cope with the huge entries. And the real climax came on Sunday evening when the Grand Priz was won by a little lady called Susan FitzPatrick beating her nearest rival  Michael Pender by a mere percentage of a second and secured  for herself the grand prize of €25,000.

But don’t go away there is more equestrian entertainment this week by way of the Cross/Country Eventing in Drishane (Millstreet InternationalHorse Trials ) to be precise and will run from Wednesday to Sunday this week August 22 to 26.
