Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.
The year is moving on at a very fast rate and the many worries and concerns that we had during the drought seem far behind. Christmas is only a matter of a few weeks away and during the long hot summer with its scorched lands and water scarcity, did we ever think that by December we’d have enjoyed bumper crops of fruit and vegetables and an abundant supply of grain and silage and hay. As well as the all important shed of turf. The fields are still a lush green and lots of cattle still out, and even at this late stage on our 2018 calendar there is still little need for home heating. And now,we can’t but thank the ONE who governs all, for such wonderful gifts. Buíochas le Dia.
The new drink driving laws of course are biting hard into the lives of our people. Every day we hear of yet another victim of its cruel laws. with even more of our friendly local pubs closing their doors. The huge amount of depression and isolation, that it has caused already is only the tip of the iceberg, to what it will bring as more and more people will be confined to loneliness. Gone are the times when a family member or friend can give a friendly call to an elderly person and share a friendly glass with them, if they do they cant drive home. These laws resemble the Penal Laws of old. Made with the stroke of a pen, with no thought of the consequences . It has only led to home drinking, which can be a massive problem in itself. And we all know that the joy of a social drink is in the company. Move on Eily.
