Louisville’s 145th Annual World Famous Kentucky Derby Race Today

Update from Patrick W. O’Leary regarding the result of Saturday’s Kentucky Derby Race:

  •  What a finish ! The horse that crossed the finish line first was disqualified. That is the first time in the history of the Derby where the winner was disqualified. The horse that came in second was declared the winner.
  •  The horse that was declared the winner was a long shot. If you bet $2 to win you won $132!
The track attendance was 150,729 people. That is the entire population of County Wexford!
Sincere thanks Patrick for this wonderfully comprehensive update on the event.  (S.R.)

Today the world famous two minute Kentucky Derby takes place as the culmination of a two week Festival.  Post time for the Kentucky Derby 2019 is 6:46 p.m. ET in USA.  under the legendary twin spires. With such a wide-open field entering the starting gate for the 145th running of this world-famous race, it promises to be supremely exciting.   Here in Millstreet we also celebrate the annual event thanks to the O’Leary Family of Louisville, Kentucky Eileen sent us the Official Programme and the famous Pegasus Pins which we are proudly wearing today.  Michael sent us a superbly colourful book relating to the very interesting history of the 145 year annual event while Patrick keeps us fully updated on the Derby itself having shared tee-shirts and socks with the official logo.  A very special word of sincere thanks to Kathy and Mary Ann – Patrick W. O’Leary’s sisters.  Here we share images of the various items as well as James Wickham of Minnesota and New York (on holidays at his ancestral home near Ballydaly) with yours truly displaying our Kentucky Derby Day 2019 memorabilia at Cinnamon Restaurant this Saturday morning – 4th May 2019.  We thank Anna O’Shea for assisting in the photography.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)
