Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club weekly update

Our juvenile Racers were in Greenmount, Limerick Racecourse on Friday last competing in the first round of a three week league. This is a great opportunity for kids to get involved in racing in a safe traffic free environment using the 2km track outside the race course. We were represented in all age groups with Abbey Dennehy taking to the track for her first race at under 10 level. Well done to all our competitors. Keenan Dennehy, Nicholas Buckley and Kate Murphy (3rd) featured in the Under 12 race with Daniel Bradley, Aidan Morley(3rd) and Dinny Murphy (1st) in the Under 14 event. Finally Ciaran Finnegan (3rd) and Ben Murphy (1st) took on the under 16 event. Well done to all the participants and good luck over the coming two weeks as the league points are accumulated to determine the overall positions. Congratulations to Ben Murphy on making the six man U16 Irish team for next week races in Shrewsbury, UK. Hard luck to Amy Fleming on missing out on the U14 girls Irish team for next week due to a crash last week that put her out of Kanturk which was last selection race. But watch this space she will be back……. The Fermoy Cycling Club Hennessy Cycles Summer League starts this week and will every Tuesday night for the Summer with races for adults and Juveniles. Well done to all the Club members, young and not so young, who took part in the Twin Peaks challenge organised by Killarney Cycling Club on Sunday last and well done to Killarney for organising such a well-run event and some club members did the remembering Zoe cycle in Abbeyfeale.

Presentation of Smart Store Survey

This Tuesday on the 14th of May at 8pm 7:30pm. Millstreet Community School students will be presenting the results of their Smart Store survey which they conducted in O’Keeffes Supervalu. This presentation on their findings will be followed up by a talk given by the Cork County Council on sustainability. Part of the Tidy Towns goals is to strive for sustainability and reducing food waste is an important part of that.
All are welcome to attend this event at the Community School.

Tidy Towns Update

This is Week 2 of collecting litter around Millstreet, but no change in cigarette butts – the town would have been knocked out of the Anti-Litter Challenge for these butts alone!

Millstreet Tidy Towns would like to thank those who have helped so far, there was a big improvement outside pubs, thank you!  The butts in the picture below were collected all around town, not outside the pubs!

The Litter Challenge competition starts this week, May 13th to May 22nd. Judging begins in Tanyard Wood moving up into town. Judging can be at anytime, any day.

We really appreciate everyone’s help so far, don’t forget we are always looking for more helpers to help show off your town’s beauty!
