“Radio Treasures” on Cork Music Station 9:30 to 11pm this Tuesday

“Radio Treasures” tonight (Tuesday, 17th Sept. 2019) places focus on a broad selection of excellent songs and music from Irish Traditional to Classical to Country & Western.   We hear about the truly amazing story of the Cross in Knock at the start of July 2019 – a story which today appears in a feature by Journalist Michael Commins in the “Mayo News”.   We also relate about a somewhat inflexible door at UCC and how it was solved!

And we visit our audio archives for some very special gems also.   All this and much more tonight on Cork Music Station .   Also in tonight’s “Radio Treasures” we include musings, music and songs galore.  We remember our Faithful Departed.   And we chat about such a variety of topics as illustrated below:

Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club notes

The juvenile road-racing calendar has come to an end for 2019.

The last competitive events held were the Kerry County League and the Munster Championships. In the Kerry County league Keenan Dennehy was second under 12 with Sean P Fleming and Nicholas Buckley also completing. Aidan Morley and Amy Fleming were both second Under 14. Daniel Bradley, Darragh Dennehy also completed in the Under 14 race with Ciaran Finnegan finishing the season strong in the Under 16 section. Denis O Connor raced well in the A3 Adult section getting on a break and finishing well up the field. Aidan Morley who finished the season very strong topped the week off well with a bronze U14 Munster Medal in Blarney. Well done to our Juveniles and their coaches and parents who has developed massively this year.

From Coalisland to Errigal, Drogheda to Fermoy our juveniles have traveled the four corners of Ireland this year representing the Club. The Club are planning a further recruitment drive around Christmas this year. Please contact the club or any of our members if you or anyone you know is interested in learning more about cycling.

The cyclocross season will be kicking off over the next few weeks and we encourage all our members to have a go off this also.

The Juvenile Club have organised a trip to Yorkshire to watch the World Cycling Championships from Thursday 26th to Monday 30th next.

Eily’s Report 17th September

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.

I’m not into sport as such but I do know that Kerry got beaten by Dublin on Saturday. The old saying was that, ‘If we had Kerry bate (beaten) and the hay saved, then the rest of the year was our own’. I’m loathe to take sides, but I have to say if the Cup came to Kerry, it would have raise the spirits of the entire South.

But with the All Ireland Final over, we have plenty to celebrate at home, before the week is out.  First Culture Night on Friday September20th. Our Community Council have been working hard over the past number of months to make sure that Millstreet Town will be up there with the best of them.   There is something for everyone and we are asking every one to play their part. Come into town and swell the crowd. The list of things to enjoy is long and varied. Sean Radley will have a special display at the Museum and extend the open hours to about 8. A special display of Arts Crafts and old photos will be held at the E-Centre by kind permission of the Duggan Brothers. The Pipe band will give a recital at the Town Square and a free night of entertainment will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel. All the Pubs in the town are holding various events, Bingo at the Bush, Trad nights at McCarthy’s and The Bridge Bars. Board Games at the Clara Inn etc.

The Vintage Club will be there with their own spectacular display. The list goes on and it all kicks off at 6. So see you there. In Cullen, they will celebrate Culture Day with a grand Concert at the Community Hall plus refreshments. From 7 pm.
