THE WEEK AHEAD
MONDAY 1st FEBRUARY: Feast of St. Brigid: The name Brigid means “the exalted one.” She is known as Mary of the Gael. One significant virtue about Brigid which outshone all others was her generosity. When it came to serving the poor, she said, “If I had the power to give away the whole of Leinster, I would willingly give it to God’s poor.”
TUESDAY 2nd FEBRUARY: The Presentation in the Temple: Candlemas Day: On this feast an elderly couple, Anna & Simeon make a prophecy as they see the forty-day old Child Jesus present in the temple. They call him a “light to enlighten all peoples.” As is tradition, candles which will be used on the altar during the coming year will be blessed during Mass on Tuesday evening.
WEDNESDAY 3rd FEBRUARY: Feast of St. Blaise: According to the Acts, while Blaise was being taken into custody, a distraught mother, whose only child was choking on a fishbone, threw herself at his feet and implored his intercession. Touched at her grief, he offered up his prayers, and the child was cured. Consequently, Saint Blaise is invoked for protection against injuries and illnesses of the throat. As we are unable to give individual blessing of throats this year, I will include the blessing of St. Blaise during Mass on Wednesday morning.
EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT: We will resume Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, behind closed doors via our live-streaming on next Friday (5th) between 7.00 & 7.30p.m.
