At April’s Macroom Municipal District Meeting Cllr Gobnait Moynihan requested Council to light it up the Macroom Town Hall and Carnegie Hall Millstreet, in the rainbow colours, to celebrate PRIDE festival.
In response to Fianna Fáil Cllr Gobnait Moynihan motion; Cork County Council stated that Macroom Municipal District is in the process of arranging that both Macroom Town Hall & Carnegie Hall Millstreet will be lit for the period PRIDE festival in the rainbow colours.
Welcoming the response Cllr Gobnait Moynihan said “ I’m delighted Cork County Council are lighting up the buildings, as it will not only look smashing in the rainbow colours but will also make a real statement too. ”
Created in 1978, by the artist Gilbert Baker, the rainbow coloured PRIDE flag is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer LGBTQ rights movement. The rainbow colours in on the flag are thought to reflect the diversity of the LGBTQ community.
Commenting on the move to Cllr Gobnait Moynihan said “Shining the rainbow colours really demonstrates Cork County Council commitment to its citizens. It expresses Cork County Council solidarity and support for the LGBTQ community.”
