Mary Agnes Murphy, Rathduane

The death has occurred of Mary Agnes Murphy, Rathduane, Rathmore, Kerry / Millstreet, Cork. Passed away, peacefully, on the 16th May, under the loving care of the matron and dedicated staff of St. Joseph’s Community Hospital Millstreet.

Much loved wife of the late Peter and sister to the late John, Patrick, Dan and Neily. Dear mother to Joan, John Joe, Pat, Donal, Norah, Peadar, Maura and Neily, mother-in-law to Nora, Christina, Carmel, Thecla, Noel and the late Danny, adored nana to her 15 grandchildren. Sadly missed by her loving family, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. May Her Gentle Soul Rest in Peace. [rip]

A private family funeral mass will take place on Tuesday at 12 noon in St Patrick’s Church, Millstreet followed by burial in Cullen Cemetery. Messages of sympathy may be left on the RIP condolence page.

Last week, journalists from the Spanish ÉFE news agency visited Millstreet to do an article on the Eurovision which was held  here in 1993. Their work appears on several news papers today, below is an example:

When Noel C. Duggan dreamed of hosting the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest at the equestrian arena of his Irish hometown, Millstreet, many said he was “crazy”. But his drive and ambition helped put the tiny town on the map and, for one night, was the center of European music.
