Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club youths, parents & trainers had a fantastic weekend at the JJ Keneally Newcastle West Cycling Club youth 2 day cycling event where 4 tough stages were held in extremely warm conditions on very hilly roads, fast descents & some serious climbs, a few mechanicals & a bit of fatigue didn’t hold back our 13 riders from performing to the best of their ability, all starting & finishing each stage very strong showing great strength & determination. There was a great buzz & atmosphere around with plenty ice-cream. It was a great weekend of racing all round for the club & youths. Lessons were learnt & skills development for future events.
We had a full field of riders in each age category & each did the club, their parents & coaches very proud.
U12s girls were 1st to kick off the event on Saturday morning with Abaigh Dennehy, Caolfhionn Foley & Rose Linehan.
Followed by U12s boys Dan Dennehy O Sullivan, Conor Lynch, Patrick O Sullivan & Ethan Reel.
U16 girls next up was Kate Murphy, followed on by U16 boys Donagh O Connor & Darragh Dennehy.
Then off 5mins after them were the U14 girls with Hannah Dennehy O Sullivan, followed by U14 boys Nicholas James Buckley & Cianan Dennehy.
All putting in fantastic effort in not so easy conditions.
There was a prize giving in the hall on Sunday evening where we congratulate Rose Linehan who won overall 1st unplaced U11. U12s Conor Lynch wins 3rd overall & Ethan Reel 4th overall. Kate Murphy wins 2nd over all in U16 girls.
We’d like to congratulate & thank Francie Collins & Peter Finn on running a very well organised event & Dany Blondeel for entertaining us with his music & keeping us informed.
