Millstreet Library

Summer Stars is an exciting reading-based programme, available free of charge to Primary School children, to encourage them to continue reading throughout the summer months, 12th of June to 1st September 2023.

Each child is invited to register for the adventure at their library and enjoy reading many books during the summer holidays. All participants will be given a Summer Stars Reading Card to record and track their own progress. At the end of the adventure, children should return the reading card to their Library where all cards will be entered into a draw for prizes at the end of the summer.

During September, Millstreet Library will present the children with a Summer Stars Certificate of achievement and the winners of the draw will be announced.

Please keep an eye on Cork County Library & Arts Social media pages about different events for children taking place in different libraries during the summer.

Look forward to seeing you all during the summer months.

Millstreet Town Park Committee Says Thank You

Millstreet Town Park Committee fully sponsored a free family fun day in Millstreet Town Park on the afternoon of Sunday 11th June 2023.  The event was a great success with many happy faces on the day.   Millstreet Town Park were delighted to welcome back Kenny the Clown who put on a magic show, balloon modelling and tattoo art.  Local firms the Animal Roadshow and Fineoaks Alpacas proved a huge hit with young and old alike.  Chairperson,  Denis Twomey advised, “The  day was one to say thank you to each and every Sráider who rallied behind our fundraising for the complete revamp of our playground  and subsequent installation of a zipwire.   The support from our local businesses, Lotto, Community Council, clubs, schools and individuals was to the fore and is to be applauded. Whether you arranged or attended an event, provided sponsorship or made a business or personal donation at home or overseas– thank you.  We also wish to publicly thank IRD Duhallow and Cork County Council for providing total grants covering over 50% of these combined projects.  The balance of over €60,000 was raised in the community. Thank you Millstreet.  With various Covid 19 Lockdown’s we never officially opened these projects. The committee instead decided to sponsor in full a thank you day for the people  of Millstreet.”

The event coincided with Millstreet national schools’ parents association fundraising  walk through Drishane castle grounds  and after picnic in the Town Park.   Local firms Dansa Coffee and Mr Cool were on hand to provide much needed refreshments.  “It was great to collaborate with the local parents association to  maximise footfall for both events resulting in a very eventful, fun day all round.”

Since its opening in the 1950s  Millstreet Town Park continues to be managed  by the  all volunteering  Millstreet Town Park Committee.  The widely used and much valued 13 acre multi use park is maintained by a Community Employment scheme and funded by a part share in the local Lotto, grant aid, club subscriptions and donations [read more …] “Millstreet Town Park Committee Says Thank You”
