The death has occurred of John Smyth, Corrineary, Drum, Scotshouse, Co. Monaghan, 30th June 2023, peacefully in the excellent care of the staff at Cavan General Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Margaret. Much loved father of Sinéad, Siobháin, Aileen, Brian and Diarmuid. Sadly missed by his sons-in-law John, Kevin and Graham, and daughters-in-law Laura and Jude, grandchildren Caolán, Emily, Seán, Eoghan, Méabh, Tiarnán, Donnchadh and Sadhbh, sisters, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

John will journey from Martin’s Family Room on Saturday (1st July) at 11am and will repose at the family home, Corrineary, Drum, Scotshouse (H16 AP58), from 4pm to 8pm, with removal on Sunday morning at 10:00am to arrive at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Scotshouse, for 10:30am Funeral Mass. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. House private Sunday morning, please.

John was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Looney, formerly of Minor Row, Millstreet, Co. Cork.

 

Jerry McSweeney’s Interview Regarding Jerry Kavanagh’s Music

Here we share the second example of our recently broadcasted “Radio Treasures” Interviews on a newly formed Cork Music Station YouTube Podcast Channel  created with the very kind and expert assistance of Bernard Crowley.  The intention is to add more content on this Channel from broadcasts on Cork Music Station including segments from “Radio Treasures” (Tuesdays 9.10pm to 11.30pm) and other CMS Broadcasts.  The second of these items is an interview with Jerry McSweeney of Manchester and a native of Killarney Road, Millstreet pictured throughout the video on his recent visit to Millstreet Museum where he very generously presented two audio CDs of the fiddle/violin music of the late and great Jerry Kavanagh to Millstreet Museum.   We invite you to listen to our 15 minute Interview with Jerry and we also include one of Jerry Kavanagh’s tunes entitled “King of the Fairies”.  Happy listening! John O’Sullivan, Laught, Rathcoole

The death has occurred of John O’Sullivan, Laught, Rathcoole, Co. Cork.

Laught, Rathcoole, Mallow, Co. Cork. On June 28th 2023, peacefully, at home, in the presence of his loving family.  John, beloved husband and best friend for 63 years of Kathleen (née Murphy, Coolikerane, Millstreet). Dear father of Michael (Mikey Joe) and brother of Ted (Ovens) and the late Chrissie O’Riordan (Dromsicane, Millstreet). Sadly missed by his heartbroken wife, son, brother, daughter-in-law Karen (née Roche, Carriganima) his adored grandchildren Kate and Jack, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing in St John’s Church, Dromagh (P51W983), on Friday, 30th June, from 6pm to 8 pm. Funeral Mass on Saturday at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in St Mary’s Cemetery, Millstreet. Family flowers only.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
