Wonderful to see the introduction of two new splendid Millstreet Christmas Cards by Niamh Twomey of “Wordsworth”, The Square, Millstreet. Exploring the idea Niamh sought our suggestions at Millstreet Museum. Having shared a number of historic photo ideas we felt that the chosen one should be a magnificent 1930s image recorded from the upstairs window of the now Reen’s Pharmacy by the superb Photographer and Gentleman Supreme William J. (Bob) Cronin (which was then William’s Family home) of a Pig Market Day on Main Street and at Market Square, Millstreet. His daughter, Kitty Cronin of The Rectory, kindly gave permission to include the image and also provided some fascinating facts about the remarkable photo. The second Christmas Card depicts an image of the very beautiful Good Shepherd Stained Glass Window (my favourite window!) originally fabricated by Watsons of Youghal – at St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet. Special thanks to Canon John Fitzgerald, P.P. for permission regarding the inclusion of this greatly admired window as one of the Millstreet Christmas Cards. Both cards are now available at “Wordsworth” Book Shop. Tap on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)
