“Radio Treasures” Tonight Features a Repeat of Rathmore Interview

On this Tuesday – 20th Feb. 2024 … preceded by “Jimmy Reidy & Friends” with a wonderful programme (no. 84) from the  splendid Archival Series where the focus is on Freemount  at 8pm (the repeat of which one may hear after the Maureen Henry Show on Sunday night at 11pm) we invite you to also tune into “Radio Treasures” this Tuesday from 9.15 to 11.30pm on Cork Music Station.  Tonight we feature a Repeat of  two Interviews at Vintage Event in Rathmore at 10.00pm.   Lots more of our regular items also.   Feel very welcome to contact the live programme by emailing corkmusicstation @gmail.com or texting 086 825 0074 – One may also WhatsApp that number.   Tap on the images below to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Millstreet Library – Ireland Reads – YA Design a Library Card Competition

Ireland Reads Day is on Saturday 24th February. Ireland Reads is an initiative of the Government of Ireland to celebrate the joy of reading. It is funded by Healthy Ireland and supported by public libraries and many organisations that promote reading, literacy and the arts.  Take some time out and sit down for a read, for as long or as short a time as you can, and lose yourself in the adventure.  Reading has many benefits, it relaxes the body by lowering your heart rate and eases tension in your muscles.  Studies have even shown that reading boosts your mental health by reducing stress by up to 68%.

In conjunction with Ireland Read’s, Cork County Library and Arts Service are delighted to host a Young Adult (12 – 17 years) A Design a Library Card Competition.

The theme is ‘Get lost in a good book!’

The age group is 12-17 years old.

There will be one winner and they will receive a €75 book token and have their design printed on the new YA library card.

The closing date is Friday the 15th of March.

Eily’s Report – 20th February

Dia is mhuire díobh go léir a cáirde and welcome to my Report.

Oh what a beautiful day can do, to see the brightness and the warmth of the sun, feel the springy mossy soil beneath your feet. Three fine days in a row were made all the more special when the weather forecast for them was for rain and more rain and wind and freezing cold.  All going to two local wedding held their breadth on Saturday with guests arriving fully supplied with rain wear and umbrellas. Both weddings had Cloghoula connections and their receptions were  held at two hotels in beautiful  Adare. Our Canon John endeared himself  to all present at the wedding of Martin Buckley and his lovely bride Lisa O’Driscoll, at her native church in Ballyhooly. His open and friendly manner did not go unnoticed. The Carriganima bus was made available to all those who needed a lift and the reception at Fitzgerald’s Woodlands Hotel in Adare was a joy to all.

The second wedding of the day with a Cloghoula connection was that of Richard Brown Kilcorney who teaches at Cloghoula National School, he  was joined in marriage to Marese Murphy. We wish all our newly weds many years of health and happiness.

Aubane Community Alert Group will hold a Crime Prevention Meeting on this Tuesday Evening February 20th at 8.30pm in Aubane Community Centre, A Member of An Garda Siochána will be in attendance.
