John Joe Buckley Toorbona, Rathmore – Acknowledgement and First Anniversary

John Joe Buckley

Toorbona, Rathmore, Co. Kerry.

Died 05/11/2023

Acknowledgement and First Anniversary

On the first Anniversary of John Joe’s passing, we his family, would like to express our grateful appreciation for the sympathy and support shown to us throughout John Joe’s illness and funeral.

Sincere thanks to all who called to the house, joined us for Requiem Mass and burial, those who viewed the mass online and especially those who travelled long distances to be with us.

Thanks to those who helped out at the house.  Thanks also to those who sent Mass Cards, perpetual enrolments, sympathy cards and letters, text messages and online condolences. Memories and stories from John Joe’s many friends and relatives from over the years meant so much to all of us.

We are very grateful to all who cared for him during his illness. Connie, his dedicated home help who made life easy for him in his own home, Dr Christine Walsh and her medical team in Millstreet Medical Centre who were always so responsive and Reen’s Pharmacy.

To the staff of Millstreet Community Hospital, words cannot adequately convey our profound gratitude for the exceptional and dignified care shown to our father and the kindness shown to us as a family.  It was a great comfort to us to know that he was so well looked after.

Our thanks to Canon John Fitzgerald for the use of Millstreet church and for offering prayers at the removal.  Thanks also to Sharon and Julie for their guidance and assistance with the funeral preparations.

Thanks to Fr Pat O‘Donnell  PP Rathmore who concelebrated John Joe’s beautiful and thoughtful funeral mass with Fr Pat Fogarty PP Glanmire and our neighbour Fr Donal O’Riordan.  Thanks to Siobhan Forde for providing the music at the funeral mass.

We wish to express our gratitude to Davy, Cora and all at Tarrant’s Undertakers for their professionalism and careful attention to every detail. Thanks also to Marcella and the staff in the Wallis Arms Hotel for the hospitality and food after the funeral service.

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our deepest gratitude. The holy sacrifice of Mass has been offered for your intentions.

Millstreet Christmas Lights 2024 – Annual Church Gate Collection This Weekend

Millstreet Christmas Lights 2024
Millstreet Christmas Lights Committee will light up our town again this year.  We feel it is imperative to
create a festive atmosphere in Millstreet. Our Christmas lighting uses energy efficient LED lights which
require 75% less energy than traditional bulbs. To add to the festive spirit we kindly ask households and
businesses in the town to decorate their premises.
We would like to thank all who provide power for our Christmas display, those who volunteer their time,
premises and equipment and those who contribute financially.

Christmas magic at The Square.

Special thanks to Cork County Council for
their continued support.
This weekend November 16/17 we shall be having our annual Church gate collection and we would

Eily’s Report – 12th November

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a cáirde and welcome to my report.

The  weather may be unseasonable but it certainly is lovely. It’s so unusual to see the leafless trees and plants sticking out new buds and even a few blossoms. My lemon tree which didn’t do so well earlier on is having a hay day. New tops on the branches and even a flower and strange as it may seem we may as well enjoy them.  The lawn continues to need mowing and the mushroom like fungi pops up all over the place.  It’s nice to be able to get out more and with the leaves all gone off trees the views are much better as you drive along.  It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only a matter of weeks away.

Three Star Private Keenan Barrett & Parents on TG4

As a new group of Irish Soldiers this week (Nov. 2024) embark on a Tour of Duty to Lebanon one of those brave Members of the Irish Army is Three Star Private Keenan Barrett from Letterkenny, Co. Donegalson of Eugene and Kelly Barrett and grandson of John & Gwen Barrett, Aubane, Millstreet.  Keenan, Kelly and John all recently featured on “An Nuacht” on TG4 Television…filmed in Athlone… during which Keenan spoke brilliantly in his wonderful Donegal Irish!  We wish Keenan a very safe and fulfilling tour of duty.   Ireland is so very proud of its courageous Members of the Irish Army and being such inspiring Ambassadors as UN Peacekeepers.  Tap on the images (from TG4) to enlarge.  (S.R.)
