Death Notice: Christina O’Connell (née Buckley), Derrinagree Post Office

The death has occurred of Christina O’CONNELL (née Buckley), Derrinagree Post Office. Peacefully at her residence, beloved wife of the late Pat and loving mother of the late Gobnait. Sadly missed by her loving daughter Bernadette, her sons Michael and Donal, nephew Ted, grandchildren Jessica, Alison, Erica, Emily, Daniel, Caoimhe, Liam, Tina and Catherine, daughters-in-law, Eimear and Catherine, son-in-law Felim, sister-in-law Joan, nephews and nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Rosary at her residence on Sunday at 8pm. Reposing in the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Derrinagree, on Monday from 4pm to 8pm. Requiem Mass on Tuesday at 12 noon and burial afterwards to St Mary’s Cemetery, Millstreet. [1] [2] [3]

Pictured with members of her Family - Christina O'Connell has just retired from Derrinagree Post Office and her most welcoming Shop following most magnificent and dedicated service to the public since 1951! Many presentations have taken place in recent days including the celebration of Mass and School Reception in Derrinagree on Friday, 8th May 2015. LTV2 Millstreet recorded a special feature on the final day of totally dedicated service. Sincere congratulations to Christina on a long, healthy and very happy retirement. The historic occasion of the choice of the Millstreet Church Window would have been further enhanced if the name of the Church and the name of the Photographer (Bill Power) had appeared on the stamp also! But we all know the actual background to this marvellously uplifting occasion.

2014-11-06 An Post Christmas Stamp 2014 which is part of the Harry Clarke stained glass in St.Patricks Church MillstreetThere’s thrilling news this morning that a photo of part of the Harry Clarke stained glass window (Adoration of the Magi) in St.Patrick’s Church Millstreet has been selected by An Post as one of three specially commissioned stamps for this Christmas. So a little bit of Millstreet will be seen all over the world this Christmas on letters and packages.

We featured the stained glass previously when it appeared on Fr.James McSweeney’s website 2u.ie. The photographer Bill Power is from Mitchelstown has an interest in Harry Clarke’s stained glass, has outlined in a nice piece  how it all came about:

An Post Rebel Tour

After the recent excitement where the Tour of Ireland passed through Millstreet, we will have more cyclists this coming Sunday 13th Sempember. The “An Post Rebel Tour:Mushera and Nadd Mountain Challenge Route” will be coming in the Drishane Road, turning left at Dairygold and up over Mushera. While it is a fun cycle, this route is for more experienced cyclists.

The route is described as: “The 130km route takes in the scenery of the Boggerah Mountains passing along historic trails such as the old Butter Road and Aghinagh Way with some challenging climbs past Mushera Mountain as well as on the way to Nadd village. The route starts at Mallow GAA Sports Complex, continues out the N22 Mallow to Killarney road, turning left for Millstreet, and left again on the outskirts of the town (Rylane Road) commencing the climb towards Mushera. This is part of the Butter Road which dates back before the 18th century when it was the main trade route between Kerry and Cork.
