By the Way 2 – Officially Launched

Congratulations to Ann Lane of Ballinatona whose new photographic book on public art in Ireland By the Way 2 was launched yesterday by John Sheehan of the Dubliners, at the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson Street, Dublin. Also in attendance were the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, his wife Sabina, and a host of well known faces from politics, friends from her 28 years as personal secretary of past President Mary Robinson. An excellent gift for all!

New Irish Writing » Ann Lane

route66-beginIn the last few months Ann Lane has begun to publish articles on her travels and journeys around the world. She has writel travel articles in the past and has always had her camera at the ready.

Over the weekend she wrote of the start of her trip across Route 66, and she also has articles on trips to Nepal and Everest, Tromso and the Northern Lights, the Trail of Tears, and more.

Ann’s latest book titled “The Moment and the Day: Archives and Anecdotes” was released in May 2014, and is a photographic collection of photos of people from her travels from the last 50 years who, at one time or another, were prominently involved in the history of that era or event.

Ann Lane on Tubridy

Yesterday morning, Ryan Tubridy was joined in studio by Ann Lane (formerly of Ballinatona), author of ‘By The Way: A Selection of Public Art in Ireland’. Ann travelled 16,000 miles around the country on her trusty Honda 75 motorbike to catalogue 760 sculpture pieces along the highways and byeways of Ireland.

She also talks about her time (28 yrs) as personal secretary for Mary Robinson, on how she developed her interest, travelled the country, and many stories about the sculptures. See below to listen to the interview: [read more …] “Ann Lane on Tubridy”

Ann Lane’s photographic journal of public art

Ann Lane (formerly of Ballinatona, Millstreet) has spent four years and traveled over 14,000 miles on an odyssey to catalog the country’s main pieces of public art. She said it was her initial encounter with Capall Mór, the ferro-cement over a steel structure, near Tralee, that depicts a Celtic war horse with broken chains around its forelegs, signifying freedom, which inspired her to undertake the task of cataloging the works …

This is from an article in the Irish Examiner today(5th Aug) describing her passion for public art, and her journey to this stage.

She featured on RTE Radio 1 yesterday morning (4th Aug) on the Kathryn Thomas Summer On One show, which can be heard in the podcast at the top of this page.  (from 9:13 to 11:10 – starts just before the middle of the audio).

Ann’s passion was featured in an article on the Global Post from September ’09, and it shows some of the wonderful photography she has taken.

Ann Lane’s photographic journal of public art will be published this autumn by Wordwell Books.
