June Bank Holiday’s Litter Pick-Up

June Bank Holiday’s litter pick-up, and still no improvement in the cigarette butts hitting the streets and pavements of Millstreet. What a pity that so many people are working hard to gain the extra points to put us into the silver medal category. Wake up people, stretch those arms to reach a bin or butt bin instead of dropping on the ground.

Thanks for the extra help for the litter pick up last week. It’s not nice picking up other people’s litter but this group didn’t complain and worked away with a smile. Thanks, we may see a silver medal this September after all.

It’s bad enough to see household rubbish in our street bins but this rubbish is recyclable…. :  [read more …] “June Bank Holiday’s Litter Pick-Up”

Tidy Towns Update

This is Week 2 of collecting litter around Millstreet, but no change in cigarette butts – the town would have been knocked out of the Anti-Litter Challenge for these butts alone!

Millstreet Tidy Towns would like to thank those who have helped so far, there was a big improvement outside pubs, thank you!  The butts in the picture below were collected all around town, not outside the pubs!

The Litter Challenge competition starts this week, May 13th to May 22nd. Judging begins in Tanyard Wood moving up into town. Judging can be at anytime, any day.

We really appreciate everyone’s help so far, don’t forget we are always looking for more helpers to help show off your town’s beauty!

Anti Litter Competition for 2017 begins next Monday

This year’s Anti Litter Competition is beginning next Monday 8th May 2017. As you are all aware I am sure, Millstreet Town won 1st Prize in Category A last year. So will we make it two in a row. I reckon we can do that no bother. So grab your sweeping brushes, shovels, gloves and bin bags and as always get out and clean, clean, clean. The evenings are only fab all this week so no excuses. Why not rope in a couple of the neighbours on your street and make a right good go of it. You will be done in no time. I will post the schedule of the particular areas that will judged just as soon as I get them. Any groups or any volunteers that would like help or a loan of equipment for their litter pick up please do not hesitate to contact me here on the page and I will sort out gear for you. Fingers crossed we will be top notch again this year. [from MillstreetTidyTown.ie]

Millstreet are 4th which is brilliant. That being said we still have a nice bit of ground to make up to reach 1st place, which is completely achievable. Remember the prize fund for this competition would go a long way to aid our organisations annual outgoings. For  full result details and breakdown please see http://millstreettidytown.ie/adjudication-of-anti-litter-competition/ ,  also Millstreet Tidy Town Facebook page.
The next judging period commences the 11th May and the entire town again is being judged with particular focus on Tanyard Wood on this occasion. As always the weekly Litter Pick Up is on Thursday evening @ 7pm, meeting in The Square. We would so appreciate anybody who could join us. Anti Litter Challenge 2015

Catch the Community Spirit - see litter - pick it up 02Millstreet Tidy Town Association would like to invite one and all to take part in the Anti Litter Competition for 2015. It is potentially worth €1750 to the Millstreet Tidy Town Association. What has that to do with me I hear you ask ?

The annual spend for the Millstreet Tidy Town Association per annum is roughly between €9000 to €10000. This prize fund would go a long way to help aid our efforts in maintaining our beautiful town.

The first adjudication will take place on the 27th of April, so that only gives us 3 weeks. Everybody can help, even just by tidying up outside our own houses and surrounding footpaths. There will be Litter Pick Ups organised in the coming weeks. Catch the Community Spirit - see litter - pick it upWe would really appreciate if one and all got involved.
It won’t take long if we all do a small part. Why not get together with your neighbours and organise your own Litter Pick Up in your street.

We have a beautiful town and would love to be able to showcase this. Millstreet has won first prize in this competition in previous years. It would be great if we could do it again.

Cork County Council Anti Litter Challenge 2012 – final results

Millstreet finished a creditable third in the top division of the Cork Anti Litter Challenge 2012. After a terrible first week score which left us in last position, Millstreet had the best cumulative score from the second and third weeks to climb into third position. Well done and a big thanks to everyone that bent their backs to pick up rubbish and make Millstreet a cleaner place to live in, and also those that made the effort to take their rubbish home with them!

CCC Litter League Tables 2012

After two weeks of the Cork County Council Litter Challenge 2012, we find ourselves languishing down the table for our category with only one week remaining. Top score for the second week was unable to detract from the worst score in week 1 🙁 …  but at least it was a big improvement where most other towns dropped points in week 2.
