Where The Road Takes Me
Having spent forty years as the frontline face of flagship TV on BBC and ITV, Denis Tuohy came to Castletownbere for a number of years and an opportunity to tackle his autobiography.
Armed with a plentiful supply of conversational subjects, he joins John Greene this Sunday evening on ‘Where the road takes me’, in the first of a two part programme.
Tuohy had overseen eight General Elections in the UK and in her memoirs, the late Margaret Thatcher referred to her interview with him in 1979, as the most hostile of that campaign.
There was also a day spent in the company of the infamous Charles Manson Family, after locating them in hiding in a remote area of California. As the mood darkened considerably, Tuohy and his camera crew were lucky to leave alive. (One of his interviewees was later jailed for life for the attempted murder of American President Gerald Ford))
He was also thrown off a Pirate Whaling ship in Portugal for asking the wrong questions.
