Tom Meaney’s speech on the History of Millstreet Community School
Chairman, Rev Fathers, Sisters, I’m very privileged to be with you here to celebrate the 40th anniversary of a successful Millstreet Community School. The years roll by and Ken (Brennan) has gone over all the problems and all the ups and downs which he went through and finally succeeded with the school as it established. But, I want to take you back further, and indeed it was a hard act to follow, and i’m trying to follow Ken. Prior to the 60s there was talk of change in education in Ireland. and it really took head in the middle of the 1960s, when there were many people in favour of changing the system, especially of secondary education. And, then they were talking about community schools, comprehensive schools, others were talking that they were a shame, that they’d be this and that as Ken explained. And, it finally came to a head in the late 60s when decisions had to be made. Superb Musical Presentation at “Trad for Trócaire”
Trad for Trócaire event at Millstreet Community School
A Trad for Trócaire event will take place in Millstreet Community School library on Thursday 3rd October at 8pm. It will be an evening of traditional song, music and dance, performed by members of the community school. It will also be a chance to support Trócaire’s work with the poorest of the poor in developing countries. Admission is free, although there will be a collection for Trocaire during the event. All welcome.

Marvellous Memories Recalled at MCS Class Reunion 1973 – 1978
Geraldine Dennehy did a superb job in arranging the group photograph and taking the official pictures. We at the Millstreet website thank the organisers for permitting us to share some 127 images recording the magnificent occasion. Ken D. Brennan, former Principal MCS delivered a wonderful address while three further members of the former Staff also attended. Pádraig O’Driscoll was an excellent MC and DJ for the event and accorded much appreciated uplifting words re the value of the Millstreet Website. The eight past-pupils who have gone to their Eternal Reward were very especially remembered at the beginning of the night. A talk for Lent will be given by Rev. David Armstrong (retired Church of Ireland minister) at Millstreet Community School on Mon. 25th February at 8pm.
The theme will be The personal cost of reconciliation in Northern Ireland.

Superb “Funny Money” Drama Presentation at Millstreet Community School
“Funny Money” Drama Production by Enthusiastic MCS Students Next Week
Millstreet Community School Transition Year drama group presents “Funny Money” by Ray Cooney. This hilarious comedy is guaranteed to beat the recessionary blues. Directors Jennifer O’Donoghue and Margaret Buckley have put in long hours with the cast and all the signs are that it wil be a great night’s entertainment. It will take place in the school on Tues. 22nd, Wed. 23rd and Thurs. 24th January at 8pm. Tickets are available from the school (029 70087) or at the door on the nights.
