Meeting the Great Muhammad Ali in the 1970s

When in the 1970s I was visiting relatives in Surrey I went to visit the headquarters of the BBC and just happened to be at the Reception Desk when I became aware of an exciting group of people entering the front door of the famous building. I couldn't believe it when I became aware that it was the great Muhammad Ali with his entourage and supporters arriving to participate in a television interview. I so regretted not having had a camera with me on such an historic occasion but the memory is so precious. We offer our sincere sympathy to all of his family, friends and fans on the sad departure of this truly great and charismatic gentleman and sportsman to his Eternal Reward. (S.R.)

Jerry Lehane’s Superb Images of a Snowy Square of Bygone Days

We thank Jerry Lehane for these two wonderful images of a snowy Square in the Millstreet of the 1960s or 1970s. We've been trying to read the Posters on the window of McCarthy's Bar - One reads "Whist Drive". And note the VW car outside the Jeweller's Shop. The petrol pumps outside Lucey's Garage are also visible. We welcome the suggestions as to what Christmas it is exactly. Our Museum is being officially reopened on this Wednesday, 14th Oct. at 7pm. Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)
We thank Jerry Lehane of Ballydaly and Minor Row for these two wonderful images of a snowy Square in the Millstreet of the 1960s or 1970s.  It was the late Tadhg O’Driscoll who took the truly historic pictures.  We’ve been trying to read the Posters on the window of McCarthy’s Bar – One reads “Whist Drive”. And note the VW car owned by the Healy Family outside the Jeweller’s Shop. The petrol pumps outside Lucey’s Garage are also visible. We welcome the suggestions as to what Christmas it is exactly. Jerry Lehane Introduces the Historic 1915 Pádraig Pearse Poster

Jerry Lehane delivered the wonderfully historic 1915 Poster to my home this morning. The hugely interesting item which has been carefully researched by Noreen Meaney and the dedicated Coordinating Committee and so creatively reproduced by Declan Crowley of Milltech, is a true gem and will receive pride of place at Millstreet Museum. It's now only a fortnight away from the much anticipated unveiling of the very special commemorative plaque at Corkery's Bar in West End, Millstreet on Sat. 22nd August 2015 after Evening Mass. 2Millstreet Christmas Stamp 2014 -800

The historic occasion of the choice of the Millstreet Church Window would have been further enhanced if the name of the Church and the name of the Photographer (Bill Power) had appeared on the stamp also! But we all know the actual background to this marvellously uplifting occasion.
