Chances were hard to come by until in the 45th min Shane Dineen won the ball in the tackle and fed Donagh Murphy. Murphy played a ball into the feet of Paul Dawson who controlled it well and fired home at the near post. The goal gave us a bit lift and we took the lead 5 mins into the 2nd half. Riverstick/Brooklodge 1 – Millstreet Celtic 2
We progressed to the semi final of the County Cup with a 2-1 win away to Riverstick – Brooklodge yesterday afternoon (Sunday April 7th). The 1st half saw us playing into a very strong wind but some very solid defending gave us a decent half time platform at 0-0. Right from the kickoff in the 2nd half we were pushing them back and created a couple of early chances for Tadhg Collins and Brian Murphy. In the 60th min Eamon O Keeffe’s low cross just missed the outstretched leg of Collins after an excellent team move. We were well on top now and in the 70th min we forced the first of a number of corners which eventually led to the opener. Brian Murphy swung over the corner which was met by the head of Michael Murphy to give us the lead. We kept the pressure on their defense and were rewarded again 10 mins late. Michael Murphy robbed a defender of possession and fed the ball through to Collins who controlled the pass before [read more …] “Riverstick/Brooklodge 1 – Millstreet Celtic 2”
Millstreet Celtic 0 Richmond 2
We lost 2-0 at home to Richmond this afternoon. We were very sloppy for the first 20 mins and gave up two good chances which forced good saves from Piotr Oziast. After that we found our feet and started creating chances. Michael Murphy set Tadhg Collins clear and his first time shot went just wide. Minutes later Brian Murphy sent a ball acorrs the box to Collins but his shot was straight at the keeper. Despite this pressure it was Richmond who took the lead on 30 mins. We responded by creating another couple of good chances before half time but couldn’t convert. The second half saw us spend the majority of the time attacking and Richmond looking to break. Collins had shot blocked early in the half before Brian Murphy and Donagh Murphy had shots off target. Collins was through on goal with 20 to go but his lobbed effort went just wide. With 10 mins to go we were awarded a penalty when Collins was bundled over in the box but Tim Kiely saw his shot saved. Richmond got a second on the break with a couple of mins to go so seal the points. Best for us on the day were Oisin Murphy and Donagh Murphy. – by Tim Kiely
Millstreet Celtic 1 Buttevant 3
We lost 3-1 at home to Buttevant yesterday morning. We started well and had a couple of good chances in the first 15 mins but Tadhg Collins shot just wide and headed over shortly after. The game was pretty even possession wise but we were creating the better chances and almost took the lead on 30 mins. Collins forced a good save from the keeper after being put through by Andrew Roche and a defender got back to clear. We went behind shortly into the 2nd half when we conceded a penalty. The kick was saved but the rebound fell to a Buttevant player. We got back level after 60 mins when Donagh Murphy clipped over a cross for his brother Michael to finish from close range. The game ebbed and flowed after that but we were the ones caught out and gave away 2 soft goals to hand the points to Buttevant. Best for us on the day were Donagh Murphy and Brian Murphy.

We were beaten 1-0 by Village in the St Michael’s Cup semi final in a hard fought game. We started well and had the first big chance of the game after 20 mins when Tadhg Collins pounces on a loose back pass. He rounded the keeper but this took him a bit wide and his shot was cleared off the line by a defender. Village had chances as well an despite some good goalkeeping by Piotr Oziast, they took the lead after 30 mins. Collins had a good chance to equalize shortly after but his shot from inside the box went just wide. We had a lot of the ball in the 2nd half but Village defended well and restricted us to just one good chance when Mark Ellis broke free but just as he was pulling the trigger, a defender got back to make a great tackle. Village had a number of chances on the break but found Oziast in excellent for to keep them out. It was a tense finish but Village held out to make the final. Best for us on the day were Piotr Oziast, Alan Murphy and Mark Ellis. Report by Tim Kiely

Rathcoole Rovers 1 Millstreet Celtic 2
We got back to winning ways last night with a hard fought 2-1 win over Rathcoole in Cooney Park. Rathcoole got off to a much better start and controlled the first 10 mins before taking the lead on 15 mins. This seemed to kick start us and we started to create chances for Tadhg Collins and Barry Lawlor. We were level after 25 mins when a clever through ball from Chris Cleary found Lawlor in space and he slotted it past the advancing keeper for 1-1. Just 10 mins later we were 2-1 ahead and it was the same combo again. This time Cleary got in down the right and pulled it back for Lawlor to lash home a volley and give us the lead. Millstreet Celtic 3 Dunbar 1
We beat Dunbar 3-1 this morning to maintain our good run in the league. We dominated the first 15 mins of the game and forced a number of saves from the Dunbar keeper through shots from Tadhg Collins, Michael Murphy and Paul Dawson. In the 20th min we almost took the lead. The Dunbar keeper wandered outside his box to clear the ball which came towards Barry Lawlor inside his own half. Lawlor hit it first time on the volley and it looked to be going all the way only to bounce agonisingly over the bar and deny him what would have been a spectacular goal. We only had to wait another 10 mins for the opener though. Lawlor swung in a corner from the right which broke around the 6 yard box. Dawson had a shot which was blocked but it fell nicely for [read more …] “Millstreet Celtic 3 Dunbar 1”
