Millstreet Vintage Club Makes Superbly Generous Presentation

On a very regular basis Bernard Crowley, PRO Supreme of Millstreet Vintage Club, uploads on the Millstreet Website many excellent promotions and outcomes of various highly praiseworthy fundraising events organised by Millstreet Vintage Club with splendid pictorial illustrations by Danny Lane.  Motivated by a suggestion by Luke Hurley it was decided that under the coordination of Dan O’Riordan and his wonderfully dedicated MVC Team that the Tractor Run on Sunday, 8th May 2022 would be held in aid of Millstreet Museum and Millstreet Community Website.   We are hugely grateful for the recent presentation of such a magnificent Cheque resulting from the splendidly successful Tractor Run.   This will greatly assist us to defray our substantial costs relating to the Museum and the Website.   Here we share images from the Cheque Presentation at Millstreet’s Carnegie Hall on Monday, 18th Sept. 2022.   We also recall the very memorable Tractor Run on 8th May when we were blessed with superb weather, such a joyful and inspirational spirit and a truly happy atmosphere.  We express our sincere thanks to Millstreet Vintage Club and the very many people who so generously contributed including a most magnificent contribution from Patrick W. O’Leary from Louisville, Kentucky, USA who very happily attended the Cheque Presentation.   Tap on the pictures to enlarge. Truly Historic Axe Very Kindly Presented to Millstreet Museum

As we recall the First Anniversary of the late John Kelleher of Mount Leader, Millstreet we remember an historic occasion in the 1960s when John found a perfectly shaped and unused Stone Axe when digging in his garden at Murphy’s Terrace, Millstreet.   On professional investigation by Archaeologists it was believed to have dated between 3500 and 2500 B.C..  We, at Millstreet Museum, are so delighted to accept this truly historic Stone Axe which is being very kindly presented by John’s wife, Margaret and son Jim.   This magnanimous gesture by the Kelleher Family of Mount Leader is greatly appreciated.   Within the next week the very precious historic Stone Axe will go on display at our Museum Centre in Carnegie Hall in memory of the late John Kelleher, gentleman supreme and sportsman par excellence.  Sincere thanks to Margaret and Jim for sharing such a treasure which will be admired for generations to come.  Here we illustrate the Stone Axe plus information from “Seanchas Dúthalla” in the 1970s.  (S.R.)

Liscahane Grotto Original Drawing Plan Presented to Museum

We thank Mary Fahy of Murphy’s Terrace, Millstreet for a wonderful selection of historic items which she has very kindly presented to Millstreet Museum.  Included are many historic receipts, documentation relating to the CYMS Millstreet Branch plus the original drawing plan for the Liscahane Grotto which was officially blessed and opened in the late 1950s.   It was Mary’s father – the late Jackie Forde of Church Street, Millstreet who created the plan for the Grotto.   Jackie was gifted as a superb Craftsman and completed many beautifully designed inlaid tabletops which would be quite similar to the Religious Bookstand which has also been donated to Millstreet Museum.  Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Truly Magnificent Response to the Annual Funding of Museum & Millstreet Website

The amazing generosity of the very kind Supporters of Millstreet Museum and Millstreet Website has been superbly demonstrated within the past 22 hours when a magnificent €1,575.00 has been very kindly donated through our Go Fund Me page by 35 wonderfully generous people at home and abroad.  To reach such an uplifting target in less than one day is utterly incredible and is hugely appreciated.   It allows us to continue our work at Millstreet Museum and to maintain the Millstreet Website.   The work of Volunteers in these Projects is vital and to them we extend heartfelt thanks.  Our Go Fund Me page will remain open until the end of next week coinciding with the week of our usual Church Gate Collection which due to COVID-19 this year has been replaced by this Go Fund Me project.   Míle buíochas to All.  (S.R.)

Annual Funding of Millstreet Museum & Millstreet Website

(Update Already within the first 15 minutes of launching our Go Fund Me page we have received greatly appreciated support from Rebecca, Michael & Siobhán, AnnPatrick from USA continues to support Millstreet based projects in a most generous manner.   Míle buíochas, dear Friends.)

Although we have our annual permit for the holding of our Annual Church Gate Collection for this coming weekend 1st & 2nd August 2020 we shall not be holding this Collection due to COVID-19.  Instead, for this year, we are setting up a Go Fund Me page to afford the opportunity of supporting the two local community-based voluntary services – Millstreet Museum & Millstreet Website.   Running costs at our Museum include annual insurance of €1,000.00 plus lighting, heating and development expenses while for the Millstreet Website we have hosting and domain name costs.

One can visit our Go Fund Me page by clicking  this Go Fund Me link.

Our main source of funding for Millstreet Museum and the Millstreet Website is through an Annual Church Gate Collection in August.   This year, however, due to COVID-19 we cannot hold this Collection.   Thus we extend an invitation to our Supporters to kindly consider contributing towards this Go Fund Me appeal so that we as Volunteers can continue to make our Museum and Website Services available.   The running costs of both are quite substantial.   We greatly appreciate any contribution received.    Sincere thanks also for the wonderful words of encouragement we constantly receive regarding the provision of these two community-based important Services.   Míle buíochas – Seán Radley, Curator Millstreet Museum & Team Member of Millstreet Website.

Following the recent presentation of the splendid 1916 Soldier’s Belt strongly believed to have been taken from Eamon de Valera following noble surrender at Boland’s Mills, Dublin in 1916 – Eileen Cronin of Scrahan, Knocknagree has recently very kindly sent by post a number of additional items for display in Millstreet Museum.  These include a letter from New York sent in 1896 by a gentleman to his relatives in the Knocknagree area.  (We shall share the contents of this letter in next Tuesday’s “Radio Treasures” on CMS.) Other items include a superb postcard collection of Cleethorpes in UK sent by Major John Robson in 1954 with an interesting “Post early” stamp at the back of the envelope.  It was Major John who originally sent the historic Belt to Eileen in the 1960s.   We sincerely thank Eileen for such great kindness to our Museum where we shall soon create a full display of the fascinating items.  (S.R.)
