THURSDAY 11^th FEBRUARY is the Feast of our Lady Lourdes and The World Day of the Sick. On this day the whole Church bears witness with special concern to the tender mercy and love of God towards all who suffer. It is a time to pause and be prayerfully in solidarity with those who are sick and with all who care for the sick. This year we will especially remember all those who are sick with COVID-19 and also those who care for them. As we are unable to do house visits at the moment during morning Mass on 11^th February a special blessing will be given. I ask our Lady to continue to protect each house and family in our Parish.

DIOCESE UPDATE REGARDING COVID19 RESTRICTIONS

The following update was issued by our Diocesan Covid Team as per Government restrictions, during the week:

On Tuesday, January 26th, 2021 the Government announced that the current regulations and restrictions which are in place to try and restrict the spread of Covid-19 would remain in place until March 5th, 2021. There is therefore no change in the restrictions as they apply to religious services, funerals and weddings.

Churches may remain open for private worship.
Public worship may only be held online or through the use of remote means.
Funerals are restricted to no more than 10 people.
Weddings are restricted to no more than 6 people.
Save for cases of emergency, baptisms should not take place until further notice.
House visits/First Friday visits should not take place save for cases of emergency, or where it is necessary to minister to the sick or dying.

THE WEEK AHEAD

MONDAY 1^st FEBRUARY: Feast of St. Brigid: The name Brigid means “the exalted one.” She is known as Mary of the Gael. One significant virtue about Brigid which outshone all others was her generosity. When it came to serving the poor, she said, “If I had the power to give away the whole of Leinster, I would willingly give it to God’s poor.”

TUESDAY 2^nd FEBRUARY: The Presentation in the Temple: Candlemas Day: On this feast an elderly couple, Anna & Simeon make a prophecy as they see the forty-day old Child Jesus present in the temple. They call him a “light to enlighten all peoples.” As is tradition, candles which will be used on the altar during the coming year will be blessed during Mass on Tuesday evening.

WEDNESDAY 3^rd FEBRUARY: Feast of St. Blaise: According to the Acts, while Blaise was being taken into custody, a distraught mother, whose only child was choking on a fishbone, threw herself at his feet and implored his intercession. Touched at her grief, he offered up his prayers, and the child was cured. Consequently, Saint Blaise is invoked for protection against injuries and illnesses of the throat. As we are unable to give individual blessing of throats this year, I will include the blessing of St. Blaise during Mass on Wednesday morning.

EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT: We will resume Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, behind closed doors via our live-streaming on next Friday (5^th) between 7.00 & 7.30p.m.

Our Diocesan Mission will commence tomorrow and continue until next Friday and each day you are invited to participate, on line, with Daily Mass at 10.30a.m. and a Mission Talk at 8.00p.m. (on line).

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

This week we celebrate Catholic Schools Week and the theme this year is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith and Resilience.” As our schools are currently closed, I would encourage each family to look at the daily themes for the week and help your children to understand the meaning of these words in the context of our faith and the world we are currently living in.

Monday theme Faith; Tuesday theme Learning; Wednesday theme Love; Thursday theme Resilience; Friday theme Hope.

To mark this week, I will celebrate a special Mass on next Thursday morning at 10.00a.m. for the pupils, their parents, grandparents, the staff and Boards of Management. Her response, “Let it be done to me,” was a great act of faith as she placed her whole self at the service of God.

This weekend we say a special prayer for mothers everywhere and ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to protect them and guide them in these challenging times.
