Our Diocesan Mission will commence tomorrow and continue until next Friday and each day you are invited to participate, on line, with Daily Mass at 10.30a.m. and a Mission Talk at 8.00p.m. (on line).

Speakers include John Connell, author & journalist; Olive Foley, widow of Anthony (Axel) Foley & ambassador for The Children’s Grief Centre Limerick; Br. Richard Hendricks, mindfulness teacher & priest; Fr. Peter McVerry, Jesuit priest & activist.

For those who do not have access to the website, during our weekday Masses I will include the Mission reflection and prayer, which will enable everyone to feel included.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

This week we celebrate Catholic Schools Week and the theme this year is “Catholic Schools:  Communities of Faith and Resilience.” As our schools are currently closed, I would encourage each family to look at the daily themes for the week and help your children to understand the meaning of these words in the context of our faith and the world we are currently living in.

Monday theme Faith; Tuesday theme Learning; Wednesday theme Love; Thursday theme Resilience; Friday theme Hope.

To mark this week, I will celebrate a special Mass on next Thursday morning at 10.00a.m. for the pupils, their parents, grandparents, the staff and Boards of Management.  This Mass can be viewed on our local Church TV and on churchservices.tv/millstreet. SEASON OF ADVENT

This weekend we begin the season of Advent which is a time of waiting for the great event – the coming of Christ.  Pope Francis has described the Advent season as a time of conversion to make space in one’s heart for Christ to come and fill it with joy. Vigilance, he continued, means “paying attention to our neighbor in difficulty and allowing their need to draw us in, without waiting for him or her to ask us for help.”  May we continue to be vigilant to the needs of our family members, our neighbours and our community as we journey through these challenging times. Christianity is not merely belief.

It is the practice of that belief by active charity. (Frank Duff)Saturday 21st November celebrates the feast day for the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and celebrates when Mary was asked to be the mother of the Jesus. Her response, “Let it be done to me,” was a great act of faith as she placed her whole self at the service of God.

This weekend we say a special prayer for mothers everywhere and ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to protect them and guide them in these challenging times.
