Wonderful Gathering for Unveiling of John & Lena Plaque in Millstreet Town Park

It was John O’Keeffe’s niece – Peg O’Keeffe of Drishane Road, Millstreet – who this Monday morning (11th March 2019) officially unveiled the very impressive plaque at the Bridge in Millstreet Town Park in the presence of a wonderful cross section of local people and visitors including relatives from Mitchelstown of the late Lena.   Members of Millstreet Tidy Towns and Members of Millstreet Town Park were also present.   Chairman of Millstreet Town Park Committee – Denis Twomey – delivered a superb speech acknowledging the amazing contribution both John and the late Lena made to Millstreet over several years.   Denis Hickey and his Team had the ground and plaque placement splendidly prepared.   Here we share some 18 images illustrating what a very special occasion it was – blessed, thankfully, by perfect weather conditions.   Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Two Rare Sights at Millstreet Town Park!

Matthew Dennehy of Millstreet GAA displays the final score between Cork and Kerry at the Final of the Humphrey Kelleher Football Championship on Sat. 7th July 2018 in Millstreet Town Park. A rather rare scoreline! Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)
Our second very rare sight at Millstreet Town Park on Sat. 7th July 2018 is demonstrated here by Evan and Liam. Because of the extreme dry weather conditions the original driveway to the former Coomlogane House of the McCarthy-O’Leary Family is presently visible within the Pitch & Putt Course….near Green No. 2. The print of the driveway only becomes visible during very warm Summers.

Magnificent Rainbow Over Millstreet Town Park This Evening

We were fortunate to record a truly magnificent Rainbow over Millstreet Town Park at 5.30 this evening (Sunday, 15th April 2018).  It looked like the end of the rainbow … with its pot of gold … appeared to be over the Pitch-and-Putt Course!  Even the walkers in the Park at the time never felt closer to a rainbow.   But when you come to think about it – the recent wonderfully upgraded Pitch-and-Putt Course must be gold to its many Loyal Players.  Here we share four images of this evening’s “rainbow magic”.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.) Happy Childhood Memories

Happy childhood memories the best memories of all
And my younger years in Millstreet I will always recall
On evenings in Summer up to the mid Fall
In the Townpark at the West End we played gaelic football
My friends of my youth where might they be today
Like me have the years left them balder and gray
Though some of them in the home Parish did stay
In life one might say we just went our own way
Since those days so many years have come and gone
And time does not wait it just ticks on and on
Many of the friends of my youth I may not see again
Though good memories of them with me does remain
And in fancy I chase the football up and down
With my happy young friends in the Park of the Town.
