We (Presentation National School Millstreet) are delighted to announce that we are currently one of the three recipients for the ‘Community Funding‘ at Tesco Killarney (Deer Park).
It all starts with the blue tokens that you get in the shop when you’re paying for your weekly shop. At the end of each eight week period, the tokens are counted and up to €1,000 is shared proportionally between the three good causes on display according to the number of tokens.
Please tell everyone you know to support our school by popping their tokens into the container displaying ‘Presentation N.S …… Every Little Helps!

Their website has been very active recently, with loads of photos, notices, and updates on what’s happening in the school, and they’ve been getting lots of visitors too. Here are some of the recent items:
Fr Jim Byrne was born at the RIC Barracks in the Square, Millstreet, Co. Cork on the 2nd of February, 1915. The son of Mary (Riordan) and William Byrne, he commenced his primary education from 1920 to 1923 at the Presentation Convent, Millstreet. He then re-located to Nottingham and pursued his primary education there form 1923 to 1925. The remainder of this stage of his education was at the Patrician Brothers Tullow, from 1925 to 1929. It was there he did his secondary education from 1929 to 1934. In 1934, he entered Kiltegan and was ordained in December, 1941. Due to war time travel restrictions, it was 1943 when he reached Nigeria.
He ministered in Calabar during the years 1943 to 1945. From that year until 1947, he served as Chaplain to the Nigerian armed forces. Having completed this stint, he returned to Calabar where he was to minister until 1961. In that year ill-health forced him to return to Ireland.
From 1964 to 1970, he served in the Diocese of Clifton in England and then in Westminster from 1970 to 1979, when he returned to Kiltegan. He remained there until his sudden death on the 10th of June, 1981.

The Presentation NS 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Class teams participated in the Duhallow School Football Blitz on March 11th in Rathcoole. The opposing teams included Boherbue, Newmarket, Banteer and Knocknagree. All girls had a fantastic performance despite the mucky and wet conditions (there was an inch of rain last night). Well done girls!
Photos thanks Michelle

As mentioned at the end of the school term in June, Millstreet Parents Association were pleased to announce that through the fundraising and generosity of Millstreet parents and companies we had raised €2000 for each primary school.
This week, the committee met with Joan O’Mahony, principle of Millstreet Presentation National School, and presented the school with the €2000 cheque. The money will be used to assist in the completion of the new basketball court in the girls school.
We also have a €2000 cheque for Scoil Mhuire National School to be presented later this week.
Many thanks again to all the local business groups and parents for assisting in the fundraising for both schools. – Rose Murphy, Anneka Dunne, Claire McCarthy, Sheila Lane.
