Christmas Message from Millstreet Community Hospital

Christmas in Millstreet Community Hospital is about sharing the joy and spirit of Christmas with the whole community…..that’s why we were delighted to be a part of many community events that took place over the past year.

Extending a heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers and organisations who helped us to make it possible.

A special word of thanks to Sharon Lane parish office and Canon John Fitzgerald who helped us ensure the spiritual needs of the residents were met.

Huge thanks and appreciation to the Friends of Millstreet Community Hospital in particular Mary Fitzgerald and Lena Kelleher who ensure our residents comforts are met by continuous fund raising.

The Parents Association Millstreet who have been an invaluable resource to us and form a great link to the community.  Special thanks to Lisa Corkery who organised an inter-generational project between the children and our residents recently. The candle making was thoroughly enjoyed by young and old.

Millstreet Comhaltas Group, in particular Marie O’Sullivan and Caroline Lehane have entertained our residents throughout the year lifting their spirits and filling our day room with fun and laughter. Your effort is hugely appreciated.

The Vintage Club have visited to coincide with the switching on of the Christmas lights and it was a real highlight this year to see the cars drive up the avenue  twinkling decorated beautifully. The residents loved it.

Huge thanks to Gillian Gilbourne in Millstreet Library for welcoming some of our residents to the weekly Knit and Natter group and for all her support throughout the year.

The members of Red Cross who volunteer their service to the residents.

Carriganima Community Group for fundraising and use of the community bus for residents’ outings.

Michelle O’Keeffe for visiting the residents with her dog ‘Millie’.

Thanking the local community for all your continued support during the year.

We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and Best wishes for 2024 .

Sincere Thanks from the Residents, Management and Staff of Millstreet Community Hospital

The residents, Management and staff of Millstreet Community Hospital would like to sincerely thank all those who came and participated in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at the hospital.

Special thanks to Marie O Sullivan, The Parents’ Association, Marie Casey, Caroline Lehane and of course the children who made it magic for the residents.

Hopefully this will be the start of a new tradition for the hospital. It gave the residents something to look forward to and something to talk about after.

Millstreet Hospital and its residents are an important part of the community.

Going forward we hope to collaborate with the various community groups as much as possible.

Great things happen when communities come together.

Anne O’Sullivan, Ballydaly – Acknowledgement & Sincere Thanks

The Family of Anne O’Sullivan, Ballydaly would like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped and supported us during the past few weeks.  Her final days were made so much more comfortable due to the professionalism and loving tender care of the staff at Millstreet Hospital. They all took such phenomenal care of her for the 15 months that she was a resident there. It’s wasn’t a hospital as such, but a home from home. Whilst it’s unfair to single out anyone as they were all so brilliant to her, we just have to acknowledge Heidi as they were really partners in crime.. making Glitter Bomb cards for us that made a huge mess when delivered to us! Valerie tried to keep them on the straight and narrow, but she was fighting a losing battle.. Her co-residents became her second family. Julia who was always ready with a kind word and said the Rosary for her in her final days Finbarr who made sure the curtains were pulled down every night. Pat who always stopped at the door to say goodnight And John who had some great chats with her. Thanks to Davy, Cora and staff at Tarrant’s Funeral Home as they made her final journey so easy for her and us all. Fr. Jack and Fr. Seán did such a beautiful Mass. Fr. Jack was a regular caller to Anne and John Anthony’s over the years and Fr. Seán had married them in 1965 and buried them both. Thanks to Sharon in the Parish office who did up such a lovely booklet. Thanks to Sacristan Julie for all her help and to Joan for such beautiful music. We are very grateful to all the staff of Millstreet Hospital who formed a guard of honor on her leaving the hospital and all the friends, neighbours and extended family that lined the road from Millstreet Hospital to the funeral home and then through the Town and onto the Graveyard. Her final prayers were broadcast over John Anthony’s public address speakers which were were set up by Timmy and Martin Lucey. Thank you to all the family, friends and neighbours that took the time & trouble to drop off food to us. There were so many gestures of kindness from so many people that we as a family appreciated and will never forget.   A Mass for everyone who helped and supported us in any way will be celebrated in the near future in St. Patrick’s Church. Millstreet. Go raibh maith agaibh go léir.

St. Vincent de Paul – Sincere Thanks for Greatly Appreciated Generosity

St. Patrick’s Conference of St. Vincent de Paul wishes to sincerely thank those who very kindly contributed to the recent annual church gate collections in Millstreet, Ballydaly, Cullen, Dromagh, Derrinagree and Kilcorney.   We also wish to express grateful thanks for the private donations received. A very Peaceful and Happy Christmas to All.

Millstreet Christmas Lights Committee Expresses Sincere Thanks

On behalf of Millstreet Christmas Lights Committee we wish to thank everyone who made Millstreet look so magical this festive season.

Our sincere gratitude to our hardworking electricians Denny Lane, Seanie Kelleher, Paddy Roche, Humphrey Hickey and Martin Buckley. Also, our other volunteers Mikey Cullinane, Pat Lyons, Joseph Kapron, Ellen Kelleher, Jerry Pat O’Leary, John Twomey, Matt Murphy and anyone else who helped us in any way preparing for Christmas in Millstreet.

Thanks to Cork County Council especially Marie O’Leary, Pat O’Sullivan, Denis Kelleher and all their staff for their hard work and support.

A special thanks to Mary Hickie, to all those who supplied power to illuminate our beautiful town and to Dan and Rose Murphy for storing our lights. We also wish to thank Claramore Construction and John D Buckley Construction for their continued support. We appreciate all the local businesses and residents who made such an effort decorating their premises.

The official turning on of our Christmas lights by Steve Collins was a huge success. The atmosphere and turn out on the night exceeded all of our expectations. Massive gratitude to Hullaballoons Gifts for their generous donation of balloons on the night and Michelle Byrnes for helping us distribute them.  Of course our main man Santa was the biggest hit of all. As always our MC Noel Buckley was on flying form that night along with our wonderful Millstreet Pipe Band. Thanks to our local Gardaí for policing the  traffic on the night.

Of course, none of this would be possible without contributions from our local businesses and personal donations for which we are very grateful for.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2022.

Family of Niall Buckley Expresses Sincere Thanks

Niall Buckley BDSNUI

We would like to thank the Dromtariffe, Millstreet and Cullen communities for rallying around us for the last few weeks.
On Monday morning 3rd August, people streamed into our house and stayed with us for those 4 difficult days. Preparing our house, bringing food and drink, setting up tables and chairs, directing traffic and most importantly of all, sitting for a chat.
We are blown away by the kindness of everyone. We are truly blessed to live in such a wonderful community. From Dromtariffe Hall to Rathcoole Rovers and Dromtariffe GAA who walked with us as we left Derrinagree Church on Niall’s final Journey. The road was lined from Derrinagree to Millstreet with our wonderful neighbours, friends and relatives, who carried us through that heart-breaking journey. We would like to thank every one of you for taking part in that lovely tribute. We really appreciate all your hard work, thoughtfulness and kindness.
For those of you who couldn’t make it, but sent flowers, a Mass card or lovely letter, your kind words mean so much.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Jillian and The Buckley Family.
