Tubrid Holy Well Feature on “Irish Catholic” This Week
Photographer supreme, Valerie O’Sullivan recently visited Tubrid Holy Well where she captured a wonderful selection of images one of which features on the front page of this week’s “Irish Catholic” national newspaper (20th Aug. 2020). Also included is a photographic feature within the popular weekly newspaper. Valerie’s images oftentimes appear on booklets, calendars etc. within the Diocese of Kerry and far beyond….as well as on national and international newspapers. It was Valerie who took the world famous picture of the laughing Queen Elizabeth with Pat O’Connell at Cork’s English Market. Pat Breen who coordinates the distribution of the Catholic Papers here in Millstreet Parish indicates that extra copies of the “Irish Catholic” will soon be available in St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet. For just €2.00 we encourage you to obtain your own copy with its local relevance this week. Many thanks to Fr. Paddy, to Mary and to Pat for alerting us to the special Tubrid feature. Tubrid Holy Well in the 1950s
Patrick W. O’Leary of Louisville, USA had in August (as well as others) suggested that an opportunity should be given to people nationally and internationally who may at any time wish to contribute towards the upkeep of Millstreet Museum and Millstreet Website …. and to this effect we have arranged to set up an electronic system with the Bank of Ireland here in Millstreet (where our Museum/Website account exists) whereby anyone can transfer a desired donation to the account by just quoting at one’s own Bank our relevant numbers which are: IBAN No.: IE22 BOFI 9058 0334 0531 43 and the BIC No.: BOFIIE2D. This was mentioned in August and recently a most kind lady with Millstreet connections and who resides in USA contributed a very generous €100.00 through the above Bank Account. Sincere thanks to this much appreciated Donor who is our first person to contribute through this newly introduced Bank system for our Museum and Website. Please note also in a recent Tweet that our Liscahane Ogham Stone at the Museum is now available to view in amazing 3D following a visit by two superb Experts from Dublin and Cork Universities to the Museum over the Summer. (S.R.)
Traffic Arrangements for This Evening’s Annual Tubrid Mass 2017
In the interest of health and safety a maximum of 44 cars will be permitted to park within the Tubrid environs for the annual Tubrid Mass which takes place at 7:30pm on Friday, 26th May 2017. This traffic arrangement will allow important access should any emergency vehicle be called upon. We thank James for alerting us to this new parking plan for the annual Mass. (S.R.)
New UV Disinfection System currently being installed
Last November the local papers reported that small levels of cryptosporidium had been found in the Millstreet water supply, despite the fact that an assessment in 2015 rated the risk of cryptosporidium as “very high”. The EPA recommended that even though there was no immediate health risk, Irish Water should install an adequate barrier against the parasite to ensure the town’s water supply is adequately disinfected at all times.
Thankfully Irish Water are reporting today that “Upgrade works are underway in Millstreet in North Cork to provide a new UV disinfection system at the treatment plant.” [theCork.ie]
Now, since UV disinfection replaces chlorine disinfection in other locations, wouldn’t it be great if this meant that our water will taste better when the install in completed 🙂 (Our water is disinfected by chlorination and fluoridation) [read more …] “New UV Disinfection System currently being installed”
