Heartfelt Support in Millstreet and Abroad for Cork Hurlers

We share a selection of almost forty images illustrating Millstreet’s magnificent support for Cork in this Sunday’s All-Ireland Hurling Final at Croke Park, Dublin.  Our feature includes Brian O’Leary’s truly superb Cartoon Window Drawing at the Murphy Residence in Main Street, Jerry Lehane’s artistic window display at “Capabu” in The Square and the splendid support in Barcelona, Spain at John Dineen’s very welcoming Bar. (We thank Trevor O’Connor for the Spanish photos.)   Every success to Cork!  Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.) [read more …] “Heartfelt Support in Millstreet and Abroad for Cork Hurlers”

Fundraising Table Quiz

Our names are Úna Buckley and Rafaela Tavares and we are flying to South Africa to volunteer in conjunction with a local charity called United Through Sport. During our time there we will be teaching English and a variety of sports to students in disadvantaged areas of Port Elizabeth.
Our aim while we are there is to make a difference to the lives of the students we get the priceless to work with. As well as giving them out time we also want to bring a variety of items with us such as pencils, chalk, copies, sports equipment, art supplies and board board games.
To help us achieve this we are hosting a fundraising table quiz in Corkery’s Bar on the 27th of July at 7:30pm. There will be spot prizes and lots of fun had on the night so we would love your support.

Cancer Support Group benefits from Car Run

A pleasant get together in Millstreet Parish Centre availed of the opportunity for Millstreet Vintage Club to present €10,368.73 to Kerry Cancer Support Group, the proceeds raised from a successful Car Run.

The Kerry Cancer Support Group was founded in 2000, the Group’s mission is no one should face their cancer journey alone, the Support Group is devoted to maintaining a warm, welcoming environment

while ensuring that service users have immediate access to their free programmes and resources.

Breeda Dyland, CEO Kerry Connect expressed thanks to Millstreet Vintage Club for helping their cause.

“We receive no state funding, we are a small charity who undertake a big job,  solely dependent on subscriptions and fundraisers to keep us on the road. It all started with a small bus 14 years ago, now we have three full time buses on the road”, said Breeda.

“Once we started, 75% of those diagnosed from the Region have utilized the bus. During 2023, we transported 4,500 people to appointments, translating that to car journeys, that would clog up roads and importantly, it eases the burden for patients”.

“The Millstreet Vintage Run created an awareness of our existence,  the service is free to users, cracking Cancer together every day is our service, that allows people get to their treatment in a positive frame of mind”, said Breeda.

Co-ordinator Aidan O’Sullivan expressed delight at the huge support for the Millstreet event on supporting a valuable service where so many people utilize the bus service.

“We want to thank everyone who came to the event from both near and far to support the Millstreet club, a big thank you goes to all the  hardworking marshals,  bike marshals, sign on and registration crew, Gardaí, businesses for providing a bucket facility and to everyone who helped out in any way”, said Aidan.

Eily’s Report – 16th July

Dia is Mhuire dióbh go léir a cairde and welcome to my Report.

I’m writing this on July 15th  St. Swithins Day and it’s raining. What did I tell you last week as if you didn’t know already that if it rains on the fifteenth of July, it will rain for the next 40 days. I’ve seen it happen many times over the years but have no memory of ever being washed away because of it. We don’t all agree about the weather. I needn’t tell you we’d all love to get up every morning to brilliant sunshine and carefree warm days but alas without the precious rain we can have nothing. Even as recent as  last week a farmer told me that they were feeding this year’s silage to the cattle because the pastures were picked clean, for want of rain and what a blessing not having to water the flowers every day. So be grateful.
