IFA PRESIDENCY: The leadership elections for the IFA is up and running, Millstreet and Ballydaly branch members will vote on convening in the Canon O’Donovan Centre on Wednesday, December 9, at 8.30pm.
Three candidates are seeking to succeed Pádraig Walshe for a four-year term as IFA president. In the field are Kilkenny county chairman John Bryan, deputy president Derek Deane from Carlow and dairy committee chairman Richard Kennedy of Limerick.

Here are the results of this weeks parish Lotto draw which was held at Corkery’s Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were 13, 15, 23 , 27 . AND THE LUCKY WINNER OF €16,000 was Margaret Cooper, Cullen and her daughter Maura. The seller was ,first cousin, Margaret Burke and she got €1,600 sellers prize. Because the Jackpot was won there was no €50 prize, and €20 each went to the following ten people. Millstreet Defeated Crookstwon in the final 9-2.
A CONTROLLED display helped Kilbrin overcome a battling Millstreet in the Duhallow U21 Hurling Championship semi final played at a bitterly cold Meelin last Sunday.
A chilly wind cut through the proceedings yet at least, the hurling warmed the dedicated patrons viewing the fare on offer. And at the end of the hour, Kilbrin hurled with far greater passion and purpose.
Millstreet put together a decent account of themselves and though goals brought them back into contention, Kilbrin held a facility to respond, their self belief unshakeable to sway matters.

What a truly magical evening at Drishane on Friday, 4th December 2009 when a capacity audience were totally enchanted by not only the very highest quality music including the exquisite singing and harp playing of the renowned Marina Cassidy of Killarney but by the wonderful variety of music from traditional Irish to Polish, from beautiful church choir singing to African Gospel songs, from a most memorable “Sweet Sixteen” sung by Over 60’s Winner – Mary Conway….and so many more harmonious presentations. All in aid, of course, of the Baby Jacob Trust…..and this historic “A Night at the Castle” happening continues with a repeat performance on this Sunday, 6th December at 4.00 p.m.. Do join us now as we attempt to share with you in our selection of pictures the remarkable ambience of the Drishane of a Bygone Age when the hugely dedicated organisers of this unique event arranged the lord and lady of the manor to arrive by horse and carriage, scores of people were dressed in such authentic period dress and the approach avenue was adorned with lighted torches while the church and hall (for the banquet) were spectacularly decorated with candles, greenery and flowers. Jacob’s parents,Wiola and Mariusz, expressed sincere thanks for such an outstanding event and were also presented with a substantial cheque (by Michael & Ewa) collected by a National School in Douglas, Cork in aid of the very praiseworthy trust. The amazing success of the unforgettable event in such a superb setting will certainly stimulate thoughts of many other such events in beautiful Drishane. To all, including the Duggan Family, who made this occasion possible – heartfelt thanks from all who were privileged to have been present …. and the good news is that it had been recorded for posterity …. and also for LTV2 Millstreet….to be shared with thousands of viewers possibly during the Christmas viewing schedule on local television. Cairde Muintir Mhuire will host “Prayer Through Song” with the renowned Gospel singer David Parkes at St. Colemans Church in Macroom, to-night December1st. Starts at 8, Doors opened at 7.15, admission €10. Proceeds to the Cairde Muintir Mhuire Fund.
Just a short note that the Cullen Pipe Band Annual Celebration Night and Fundraiser will take place in Flemings Bar, Cullen on Saturday December 19th at 9pm. All are welcome. Beidh ceol agus craic ann!

… or so says the Millstreet Development Group, whose excellent idea on how to keep money in the local vicinity is getting more and more time on the airways and papers. There’s loads of favourable points as to why we should get the vouchers such as:
Any local employer can give workers up to €250 worth of vouchers € tax-free, which can be spent in participating shops in the town. These vouchers can be given in lieu of wages or bonus payments Normally at this time of year, companies might give a ‘one-for-all’ voucher or vouchers for a particular store. The problem here is that in most cases the money leaves the town and in some instances commission is charged on vouchers. There will be no commission charged on the Millstreet vouchers, meaning that the recipients get their full value … and offer a variety of extra deals, discounts and packages.

IRD Duhallow is holding a Multi-Cultural Christmas Community Party in Millstreet Community Hall on December 9th, from 6pm – 8:30pm
This event will give local children & adults the opportunity to meet new friends, have some festive refreshments and sing Christmas carols. Santa and Mrs Claus will be in attendance. Peacefully, at Resthaven Nursing Home, Meelin. Reposing at Casey’s Funeral Home, Kiskeam. Removal tomorrow, Monday evening, at 8pm to the Church of the Presentation of Our Lady, Derrinagree. Requiem Mass on Tuesday at 12 noon. Burial afterwards in St Mary’s Cemetery, Millstreet.
The “Sounds of Advent” concert is on this evening in St.Patricks Church at 7:30pm. The sound in the church this morning was really good with the new sound system installed and adjusted. With two choirs singing (our own Millstreet Choir and the Kerry Choir), it promises to be a very entertaining evening, especially if you had nothing already planned for the evening. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. All proceeds to the Church Restoration Fund.
The bad weather has held up completion of the GAA schedul in Duhallow. These are the competitions that Millstreet are still involved in:
Millstreet were defeated by Freemount in the Junior B Football championship last Monday Night by 3-8 to 1-6
Killarney soprano and harpist Marina Cassidy has also joined dozens of musicians and singers who will perform at a sell-out benefit concert at Drishane Castle in Millstreet on December 6th for the Baby Jacob Trust.
The Killarney woman became aware of baby Jacob six weeks ago when she sang at the opening of the restored chapel at Drishane Chapel on the invitation of the Duggan family.
“That night, the Duggans were talking about the fund-raising for Baby Jacob and they asked me to be involved in the concert and I’m delighted to be,” Marina said. “There was just an incredible atmosphere in the church that night.
“When I heard about the little baby, I felt I really wanted to be part of it.”…

The Big Concert this week will be in our parish Church on Sunday November 29th in aid of the Church restoration Fund.entitled “Sounds of Advent.” Our own Parish choir will open the two hour show, and they will be followed by the Kerry Choral Society.

While having a few of the black ones the pub last week I got to talking to a young lad of about thirty that was in for a similar hit, and who was giving out about the state of the council, leaning on their shovels, arriving for work late, extended tea breaks, and any other bit of idling they could get up to. Sure, people were talking about the council on the radio all day as well so it was fine to do it.
Now God bless them if those lads can get away with it, and I know that shoveling is a tough job cos God knows I’ve spent enough time doing it myself, but surely they themselves realise that if they don’t pull up their breeches they themselves will be joining the dole queues as have some of their compatriots already due to this damn recession thing that’s apparently going on at the moment.
