CULLEN FEIS

Homepage

Feis Laitiarain, Cullen, Co Cork was held on Sunday June 10th in the Cullen G.A.A. Field.  It is a festival of Irish music, song and dance, with Irish Language stories and recitations.  The  winners of the many competitions were presented with cups, plaques and medals.  To provide more variety for the young people, sports were also held.
The Feis was fist held in 1898, following on the founding of The Gaelic League, in 1893.  It was held ever since with a few gaps.
In 1920 during the war of independence British aeroplanes tried to intimidate the people present at the Feis by swooping down low over them.
They failed!!  - Der Kiely
