Eily’s Report – 7th February

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly report from Millstreet.

We are well into 2017 by now, with the first week in February behind us and the colds and flu’s still making their presence felt, but we must press on regardless.

Many of our National Schools are holding registration days inviting the new comers for next year, to sign in. It’s a common sight nowadays to see large notice boards outside, giving details of  the dates when registration can take place. God be with the days when children went to their own nearest school.

At the AGM of the Community Council which was held on Tuesday night, the existing committee were re –elected in block. In view of the fact that a lot of the Council work is at a mid way stage, it was advisable to keep the same people at the helm until some very important projects are completed.

Work on the writing and displaying of the our town features will be completed at the earliest opportunity. It is very important as far as gaining more points in the Tidy Towns competition  is concerned.

An Awards Social will be held in March. St Patrick’s Day Parade is also on the agenda. And the ongoing care and maintenance of the Gym, the Creche, the Astro Turf Pitch is always with us . Once more the benefits of the Parish lotto were lauded. In its 24th year the Local lotto ensures that funding is available for the upkeep of all of these important facilites in our town. And the chairman Mr Noel Buckley thanked the public for their continued support of the Lotto.

Marie Twomey said that 169 people have joined the Text Alert Scheme in our area. And there is always room for more. Forms are available from Niamh at Wordsworth  where they can be signed, and the annual cost is €10.
Text Alert Renewal Forms are available in Aubane for John F Kelleher or Bernard Crowley. Ask and Club Member.

Above all, its important for your own security, to be part of the Text Alert scheme.

St. Valentines Day is fast approaching. Tuesday of next week to be precise. Our Centra Store in the West  End is having a draw, if you spend €10 you could win a €50 voucher for a romantic Dinner for two  in Killarney.

If youre not in you cannot win.

This week we send best wishes  two popular people who have recently retired.  Postman Noel Keating after 23 years of loyal service with An Post.

And Connie O’Leary Carriginma following 38 years with Cork County Council. We wish them both many years of Happy Retirement.

Two Table Quizzes  to look out for in the weeks ahead. In McCarthy’s Bar on February 28th. Proceeds to the Men’s Shed and on Friday March 3rd at the Wallis Arms hotel in aid of two Students going as helpers to Lourdes.
