The first day of May dawned like no other in recent years, with the warm sunshine breathing new life into the whole place.
Our Active Retired Group marked the special occasion by conducting a prayer service at Tubrid Well at 11 o’clock am. Consisting of the recitation of the Holy Rosary and singing of many well known hymns. A fine crowd attended.
Some people remembered to engage in the age old custom of blessing their places on May Eve with Holy Water.
To start off the Féile na Bealtainne program a gala Tea Dance at the Wallis Arms Hotel on next Sunday afternoon May 7th from 2.30 to 5.30. Music by the popular Peter Lane and all are welcome. A great evening is assured.
And please be reminded that from this Tuesday the Holy Rosary will be said at Tubrid Well every evening during the month of May, starting at 8pm and all are welcome.
Also be on the lookout for the IRD Duhallow Féile na Bealtaine Program which will have a different feature for each day of the Month.
A highly successful fundraising event was held at the home of Mary Buckley, Laught on Bank Holiday Monday. The beautiful sunny weather added it own lustre to the occasion. Very large crowds turned up to support the well-known Mary in her efforts to raise money for the Mercy Hospital Cork, and as well as treating her many friends and guests to beautiful refreshments. She advised many of them to take on the 3 mile walk in Laught Wood. Everybody came back full of praise for the fresh air and beautiful scenery.
In due coarse Mary says she will let us know how much she collected for her worthy cause.
I have a notice here to say that The Shandrum Ceili Band will launch their debut album entitled “The Dawn” on Saturday May 6th at Buttevant Church starting at 8.30pm. This fine CD will be available to buy on the night , and at various events in the future. It can also be ordered on line from now. Their website theshandrum.com. Our own Tadg O’Sullivan is a member of the band and also teaches concertina with Millstreet and Kiskeam Comhaltas. Please give this local album your best support.
Rathmore Parish Novena starts in Gneeveguilla, on Friday May 5th to Saturday May 13th. Mass each evening at 7.30 with guest speakers and preceded with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7.15.
Please continue to keep our town and approach roads clean & litter free. Be at the ready to help out at any of the organised Clean-Up evenings.
The 15th annual pilgrim Walk from Kilnamartra to the City of Shrone, at the foot of the Paps will take place on Sunday May 7th. Leaving from Cronin’s Farm, Clohina, at 7.30am. Walkers can join the Walk at the Mills in Ballyvourney at 8.45 am. The plan is to arrive at The City on time for Mass. As this Walk goes through some rough terrain it is advisable to wear good walking boots . Cronin’s Farm will be signposted at the Mons Bar on the N22. All are welcome to come on this varied walk.

First Holy Communion for the children of Cloghoula will be held at Ballydaly Church on Saturday May 6th at 11am.
