We thank John Greene, Presenter, for the following advance information re this evening’s radio feature (S.R.):
You don’t have to be a Leonardo Da Vinci or an Alan Titchmarsh to take part in the ‘Gardens and Galleries Trail’ which happens in Innishannon the weekend after next – (Sat July1st & Sun July 2nd). The novel idea last year to hold a week end garden and art trail was such a success that the Friends of Innishannon and the Tidy Towns committee have once again joined forces for what promises to be an exciting two days in the village.
On this week’s edition of ‘Where the road takes me’, and accompanied by local author Alice Taylor, John Greene pays a visit to some of the gardens and galleries to meet the owners.
For instance Seán and Anne MacSeoin in Rose Lawn have dispelled the myth that you can’t have a proper garden in a housing estate.
Some new gardens have been added to the trail for this year’s event along with three solo and two group art exhibitions. You can ‘bus it’ or ‘leg it’ along the trail with local experts, or you can meander at your own pace.
We meet Richard Good-Stevenson who again opens the gardens of his ancestral home at Cor Castle to the public. Built in the early 1800’s, and possibly on an older site from 1600, the gardens and the view from this beautiful building are a joy to behold.
