Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this beautiful rich, warm, Tuesday morning, after a night of soft rain.
There is never a dull moment. We had no less than two major celebrations here in Millstreet this week past week. It started on Wednesday morning at the presentation Convent School when teachers and pupils were among the large crowd to spring a surprise event on Sean Radley, to mark his retirement after over 30 years of dedication as a remedial teacher. The unsuspecting Sean was asked to unveil a plaque on the schoolyard wall. Little did he think that it was dedicated to his good self. It read as follows. This Garden is dedicated to Sean Radley our esteemed Colleague and Friend who planted seeds of Friendship, Love, and Learning in this school. Mile Buiochas. June 2010.
And what a fitting tribute to a man who has given so much. Further speeches and presentations made and the day grew into a Fun-day for all, In brilliant sunshine. Bounching Castles, face-painting, games and a barbeque.
Sean wasn’t allowed to touch a camera. Geraldine Dennehy filled in for him on this special occasion.
Celebration number two came on Friday evening when our Parish Church was packed to celebrate Fr. Paddy O Byrnes Golden Jubilee. Family Friends, Colleagues from his days with the Millstreet Athletic Club, some like John D Neenan coming all the way from the US of A.
Twelve priest assisted Fr Paddy in saying the Mass, with Jerry Doody and Susan FitzGerald providing the hymns and music. On leaving the Church the Pipe Band played and people met old friends and acquaintances in brilliant sunshine. Then everybody made their way to the mighty Green Glens, where they were greeted to a sherry reception before moving on to a wonderful sit-down meal for 400 people served by that caterer supreme, Denis Doody of the renowned Kingdom Caterers Again many speeches were made, old times recalled and the night was danced away to the beautiful music of the Kelt. A wonderful event beautifully carried out.
And this week, we welcome Colleen, one of Nebraskas great athletes who owes all of her successes to Fr. Paddy and just had to drop by and shake his hand as she passed on her way to mainland Europe.
The annual Mass at St. John’s Well last Thursday night was blessed with beautiful weather. Seven priests attended and there was a very large crowd. This Holy Place ,on the slopes of Mushera mountain, looked a real vision that evening with its vast views of several counties and now with so many further enhancements added since last year it is also a wonderful tourist attraction. An organised climb of Mushera took place on Sunday and again was a great success.
Meanwhile out in Cullen they are celebrating their Pipe Bands great success in coming first in the British Championships, which were held in Scotland, against a field of 14 bands from all over the Continent.
And we offer them our heartiest congratulations.
One sad note this week was to see our beloved Mons Manning leave for good. We hope that he will enjoy his years of well earned retirement.

Big American Day coming up at our lovely Country Park this weekend for the fourth of July. Lots of American games to play, also Fancy Dress parade as well as all the usual attractions.
All children go along to your local library to hear about all the lovely ways they have devised to keep you reading during the Summer holidays.
Our Twinning committee are looking for help. Two 13yr old girls from our Twin Town in Britteny are coming over from July 10th to 24th to improve their English ,and they want to find a place for them to stay. Please contact 087 28 33 393 if you can help.
Our Tidy Towns committee want people to please water the flowers in their own areas and help to keep Millstreet a beautiful town.
Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night . Numbers drawn were 11, 17, 26, 31, and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Con. Dennehy, Curragh, the seller was Angela O Donovan and she got €50 sellers prize.

Millstreet meet Banteer in the Duhallow Junior A Hurling Championship in Kanturk on Saturday evening at 7.45pm.
Millstreet incurred a narrow defeat to Kanturk in the Duhallow U14 Hurling Championship final but gain a place in the Co. B Championship and a meeting against Thomas Russells this weekend.
Millstreet come up against O’Donovan Rossa in the Co. Premier 2 Minor Football Championship in Dumnanway on Tuesday at 7.30pm

My grandfather Denis Buckley was born 21 Feb 1871 in Dooneen. His parents were Denis Buckley (a farmer in Dooneen) and Katherine Buckley
(Murphy). He first went to California but settled in Little Falls, New York and married Bridget White (who came to Little Falls from Ennis, County Clare) in 1898. I am thinking of finally visiting Ireland next year and would like to know if there are any living relatives of Denis Buckley. I would appreciate if you would direct me to a resource that could provide this information.
