We thank Presenter John Greene for advance information re this evening’s programme. (S.R.)

This week on ‘Where the road takes me’, John Greene concludes a two part
programme on the building of a tourist road between Killarney and Cork in
1748 – 270 years ago almost to the day.

The road which later became known as ‘The Butter Road”, was built by John
Murphy from Cahirciveen, who suffered heavy financial losses as a result..

This week….

* With the aid of Rachel Foley from ‘Ancestors from Ireland’, we
paint a more comprehensive picture of the elusive John Murphy

* At the butter market museum in Shandon, we discover how a failure
to move with the times resulted in the demise of the lucrative butter
business

And….

The connection between the Cork Butter
market and the Cork Butter Exchange Band (Affectionately known as ‘The
Buttera)

Where the road takes me – this Sunday evening at 7 on C103.
