The fine weather continues and the effects can be seen in the faces of people as they lap up the warm sunshine. Fine weather can mean different things to different people. Some love to sunbathe, others love it to dry the washing and to be able to send the little ones to play in the out-of-doors. Those who engaged in outdoor work, builders, farmers, agricultural contractors and so on. And one little lady put it in a nutshell for me this week when she said with pride, ’my turf is nearly dry’. That’s what the fine weather meant to her.
Church gate collections will be held all over the country this weekend in aid of the Popes visit to Ireland in August. Needless to say the cost will be enormous, but money well spent as most people will agree. It is indeed a great honour for our little country to have the world leader of the Catholic Church come here to celebrate the World Meeting of Families. Pope Francis is the most human pontiff that we’ve ever had, to my mind. And his task as head of our church is not an easy one, but he soldiers on. When he was elected Pope five years ago I asked a leading holy person what was the new Pope like and he said he is just what the world needs today. He’s doing his best in a bad situation, so let us give him our support.
Dig as deep as you can for the Church Gate collection at the weekend.
The Blood Bank which held a clinic here recently, would like to thank the 126 people who gave blood on that occasion.
Please be reminded that National Cultural Night is on September 21st and communities all over the country will be taking part. We are asked to plan a program or event that will keep our place well up with all the other towns in the country who will be showcasing their own communities on that day.

The service is now available to couples as well as to those living alone.
Last year the Community Council conducted a very successful singing contest, in the Autumn which proved highly popular and exciting, A similar event will be held this year, and details will be published when the Community Council resumes after the Summer break.

The Tidy Towns Group need our help on an ongoing basis. Please help in every way you can to keep our Town and it’s environs looking ultra presentable. The recent planting of flowers & shrubs is really making a difference, and well done to those engaged in the work.
