Ballydehob and Mayo Themes on “Where the Road Takes Me” This Evening at 7 on C103

We thank Presenter, John Greene for advance information regarding this evening’s feature on C103 at 7pm.  (S.R.)

This week on ‘Where the road takes me’, John Greene looks into the life and times of one of Ireland’s last street singers. Gail McMenamen talks about her brother Basil Morahan who was known throughout the country as ‘Dan the Street Singer’. A schoolteacher by trade, Basil’s attempts to keep the street singing tradition alive often embarrassed his family by dressing as a tramp. But the multi-talented Mayo man was in constant demand to sing and play in all parts of the country.     And….

In Ballydehob we reminisce on two local
sisters who ran a famous hostelry in the village, where everybody regardless of social standing was treated the same. Nell and Julia Levis are still fondly remembered by all who knew them.

There’s a West Cork and Mayo slant to this week’s edition of where the road takes me – this Sunday evening at 7 on C103.
