We thank Presenter, John Greene for advance information re this evening’s broadcast on C103 at 7. (S.R.)
This week on ‘Where the road takes me’, John Greene visits the townland of
Tullymurrihy in the parish of Enniskeane. It’s here that West Cork’s answer
to John B. Keane was born. Mick Flynn, or Mick the poet, or Mick the ’98
man’, was a singer, songwriter, poet, playwright.
Unlike the Listowel born playwright, Flynn neglected to write, record and
retain his work, and as a result, a lot of it has been lost forever. What
remains has since been recorded by the local community on DVD and CD.
On the programme we speak to his relatives and those who knew him well, and
we hear a sample of his remaining poems and songs.
Join John Greene at 7pm this Sunday evening on C103, for the story and
music of ‘Mick the Poet’ – only on C103
