This week we congratulate one of our great employers Alps Electric on their 30th anniversary. For all those years they have given work to hundreds and I’m sure thousands of our people. Sitting in picturesque Mount Leader, they continue in their own quiet way to send their products to many parts of the world. And how proud some of our people out abroad are to see that the appliance that they are working on was made in Millstreet, Co. Cork.
Their weekend was filled with great celebration and with a lot of looking back on hopeful beginnings in 1988 when Millstreet held its breath in anticipation, hardly allowing ourselves to believe that this fine employer was coming to stay. The world has changed a lot since then.
And speaking of changes. Last Wednesday November 21st was Presentation Day and our Presentation Convent National school children and their teachers attended the ten am Mass. Their singing and music filled the church with joy,with little ones from many lands among them. Following the Mass the children and some adults made their way to the nuns graveyard which is at the back of the local cemetery, further prayers were said there as Canon John blessed the graves of all the deceased nuns. Sr. Eileen laid a wreath in remembrance. How the memories of former years come rushing back to those of us who can recall such heavenly occasions. That time Walk around the Nuns private Grounds was magical as we sang our hymns with all our little hearts. We thought the place was huge back then, but when I look at it today, it seems to have shrunk considerably. Well done to all those who made the day so special.

The Cullen andDistrict Special Needs Association will hold their annual Mass and Christmas Party on next Saturday December1st, Starting with Mass at 1.30.
Our Christmas Lights will be turned on in the town on December 7th and the Community singers with Marie Twomey will attend.
The Annual Little Women’s Christmas Party will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel. Not sure yet if its January 6th or 7th but will let you know as soon as the decision is made.
The Glen Theatre is providing a wide range of entertainment as usual. Keep in touch with their program, ring them 029 56239. And perhaps you’d know someone who would like to go.
Also Ionad Cultura in Ballyvourney where they continue to present Traditional entertainment to suit all tastes. This weekend in Ballyvourney they have Eigse, for the 27th anniversary of their late great Diarmuid O Shuilleabhain.
