Eily’s Report – 5th February

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.

Despite the weather warnings of many colours, we have come to the first week in February relatively unscathed by any adverse weather conditions.

And the Wheel of Millstreet keeps on turning, with the likes of O’Flynn Medical being awarded the Cork Chamber SME Company of the Year 2019 .

We have news of a new business starting up in the Square, and some vacant premises being snapped up. It all helps to put us in a positive mood for the year ahead.

The AGM of our Community Council will be held on Tuesday night February, 12th), of next week. New members welcome to come to this meeting and become members. It starts at the Wallis Arms Hotel at 8 pm, and all are welcome. 

The Community Council is a very powerful body in our town and gives everybody  an opportunity to have an input in the every day life of Millstreet and its people. New members and new thinking are needed now  to lead the way  to the future. Please attend the AGM.

The proceeds of our 2019 calendar which was organised by the Community Council will be presented to our Tidy Towns Committee at a date yet to be decided.

 

And still with the Community Council, they wish to let people know that Senior Alert Alarms are available at the moment. For details contact  Dan Collins 087 6893378 or Michelle O’Keeffe 087 9227415.If you know someone who needs one please help them to get one installed. They are available for couples as well as those living alone.

 

The Aubane Social Club will present the proceeds of their Christmas Day Climb of Mushera Mountain to the Irish Air Ambulance Fund at a function at their Centre on Thursday night February 7th  and all are welcome.

 

Our Town Park is a blaze of light every Thursday night from 7 pm and all are welcome to join the walk in conjunction with the Ireland Operation Transformation drive. The Town Park is open every day and includes a wide array of outdoor keep fit exercise machines . Meanwhile within the Youth Complex we have a fully stocked adult gym. Open every morning at 9 am.

A defibrillator for public use is placed at the door of the building and another at the door of the Garda Barracks.

The Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes opened in Knocknagree on February 3rd and will continue each day at 8 pm. It includes Mass, Homily and Novena Prayers. All are welcome, please support it well.

 

A very successful Table Quiz was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel last Friday night to raise funds to send some Students from the Community School to Lourdes to work as volunteers at Easter. The organisers would like to thank all those who supported them so well.

 

A collection for the same cause will b e held in Ballydaly this weekend. Again you best support would be appreciated.

 

Listen in on line every Tuesday night from 9.30 to 11 for Sean Radley’s wonderful show on Cork Music Station. And this week we must thank Sean for putting his program about the local Vintage Group on the Web for us all to enjoy. Well done once more dear Sean.

1,15,21,25, and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Joseph Lawlor, Millstreet, the seller was Herlihy’s Centra and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Tim and Kathleen McCarthy, Carriganima. €20 each to Breda FitzGerald, Minor Row, Mags O Callaghan, Clara Rd. Pauline Sheahan, Kilcorney, Millstreet GAA, Marie and Cathal c/o Colemans, Miss Walsh’s Lovely Mammy, c/o Michelle, Julia Mary OSullivan c/o Herlihy’s Centra, Sandra and Hayley Enright,Station Rd..Jackpot for next week €12,200. The draw at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night.

 

The Proceeds of the Local Lotto are divided between the Town Park, the Local GAA, and the Community Council for the Youth Complex. Many thanks to all those who help in any way with this great venture which is the life line of these important bodies in our community.

 

At the weekly Weigh In in Cullen last night 40 people weighed in and 50 pounds were lost. More of the same next Monday night plus a lively jiving session.

 

The ten am Mass this morning will be a special Mass for Grandparents organised by the Presentation Convent School. The Children will attend and sing whom invited their grandparents to their school Refreshments will be served afterwards.

 

Eucharistic Adoration is  held in our Adoration Chapel every Tuesday and Wednesday , stating after ten am Mass till 10.30 pm. and in Cullen on Thursdays from 10 am.

 

45 Drive at the Canon O’Donovan Centre every Tuesday night at 8.30. Knitting Club at the adult Learning Centre from 7-9.

 

Men’s Shed from 8 Tuesday nights and all are welcome.

Its but a snippet of all the pastimes that are available around the parish.Please help someone to join one.
