Eily’s Report 5th March

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.                                 .

The mini blizzard of snow caught us all unawares on Sunday. Going from 14 degrees on Saturday to zero next day was a shock to the system to say the least.

This is Shrove Tuesday. Pancake day and our last chance to pamper ourselves before giving up something for Lent which starts tomorrow March 6th and ends on Easter Sunday April 22nd. Tomorrow Is Ash Wednesday and Holy Ashes will be distributed  at 10 am Mass and again at 7.30 pm Mass. Just to remind us that we are made of dust and into dust we shall return.

Last Thursday February 28th was International Women’s Day and it was celebrated at a very pleasant function at  our parish centre when the Transition Year Girls of the Community School invited our Active Retired ladies to a coffee / discussion morning following the 10 am Mass. There was great interaction between the different age groups with many interesting and important points brought to the surface. With the girls pointing out how difficult it is for young people to socialise away from the pub scene because there is nowhere else to go. So a well run mineral bar in the town would be a very welcome development to start with. Full marks to the students for hosting the function, the first of many I imagine and many thanks to them for their homebaked refreshments.
