The Month of April is in with a bang, and a bit of a burrrr.
We didn’t expect to be donning the Winter woollies at such a fast rate. Going from 15/16 degrees to Zero almost overnight was a shock to the system but then April showers always brought bright May Flowers, and Hope Springs Eternal.
The monthly bulletin from IRD came as usual with the start of the new month and it makes good reading for all those who are in need of home improvement schemes. The AGM of the Lotto Committee will be held at the Wallis Arms on Saturday night, April 6th, starting at 7.30.
Traffic diversions are in place in our town and will last for most of the month of April, while some vital works will be carried out on the main road from Millstreet to Ballydaly. Different people are finding different ways of dealing with the problem. Some using the Clara Road others the Station road and some more going as far as the Sandpit House, to go West. Everybody is asked to take extreme care as we await the opening of the newly refurbished road to Ballydaly.
Our Vintage Club held a highly successful Table Quiz at McCarthy’s Bar on Friday Night. It was very well supported .
Meanwhile on Sunday night our GAA Hall held a capacity crowd for the popular, Rise & Rise of the Healy Raes. A show that was enjoyed by all who were able to get tickets.
Millstreet was well represented at Ionad Cultura in Ballyvourney on Saturday night, for the film by Donal O Ceilleachair, on the Epic voyage of five rowers who battled the waves to trace the journey of St. Brendan, entitled
The Camino Voyage.
A gripping account of endurance, determination, love, sorrow, and success in the end. A film worth seeing.
Don’t miss the gala Trad concert at the Wallis Arms on Saturday April 13th when the Conifers, just back from their tour of Japan, will provide the best of entertainment. From 8pm. Admission €15.
Well done to Willie O’Regan, of Clara Rd on his fine appearance on TV with Daithi & Maura, telling them all how to make the best tea brack ever, but not as good as his Mom’s.
Please remember to keep Millstreet Litter Free. Do not throw rubbish out of your car along the road, for others to pick it up. We are all in this together, and if everybody helps, the task will be light.
Good Luck to Aine Collins who Launched her Campaign, at her office in the Main Street during the week, for Fine Gael in the Co. County Elections which come up in May. The Launch was attended by Minister Michael Creed and MEP, Sean Kelly as well as a large crowd of supporters. It’s very important that we have our own Representative on the County Council. Since Noel Buckley was defeated in previous elections, we know what it’s like to be without one, and it’s not good.
Mother’s Day was celebrated in style at the weekend. Gift shops, flower shops, food outlets did a roaring trade, and the lovely sunny weather on the Day, made it all the more enjoyable for the hard working Mammies, Baoichas je Dia.
Eucharistic Adoration continues every Tuesday and Wednesday in Millstreet Adoration Chapel, in Cullen on Thursdays from from 10 until 7and in Ballydaly on Saturdays from 10.30 to 12.30, Because its Lent drop in, even for a few minutes. Take extra care on the roads, the rain can leave them greasy and dangerous.
A little lady who recently attended the Rave Concert at the Green Glens forgot to take off the “Fit Bit” from her wrist. And when she checked it afterwards she found she had covered 32 kilometers during the show. ( Useless bit of information, but thought I’d tell you anyway.)
