Our weekend kicked off with a wonderful art exhibition, in honour of Feile na Bealtaine. Organised by our Active Retired Group. Maura Walshe of IRD Duhallow came to officially open the event. And the quality of the exhibits was tantamount to the great talents that are lying in people,until they are given the help to develop them. And Ms. Walshe had nothing but praise for the group leaders for their work not just in art but for their many other fulfilling and worthwhile activities.The May Bank Holiday weekend was something of a record-breaker. The long hours of nonstop sunshine gave everybody the urge to make the most of their time off, in the wide open spaces.
On Wednesday at 10 am, the same group joined by the members of the Men’s Shed opened the first Bowling Club in the Town. It is held in the function room of the Wallis Arms Hotel, and to start them off a group of Bowling enthusiasts from Beaufort came to see how the game is played. It’s open every Wednesday from 10 am to 1 pm and all are welcome.
The one regret we have in our town is the lack of men coming out to take part. And it is dearly hoped that many more males will partake in the wide variety of hobbies that we have on offer in the town. A healthy balance can make a great difference, and it is very important for men to seek new social outlets now that the friendly drink in the pub is taken away from them.
Once again the sun shone all day for Mary Buckley’s annual fundraiser in aid of cancer at her home in Laught, The people came in droves to support her worthy cause, and this year there was an added feature when a book, entitled “Gratitude” based on Mary and her reasons for helping the Mercy Hospital, was launched at twelve noon. Copies will be available in the near future and it makes very good reading. Sean Radley and John Tarrant were there to record the historic event ,and we have to take our hats off to Mary and her Family ,for the great work that they are doing to help others. The scene from her home was the stuff that poems are made of. Brilliant sunshine, Breathtaking scenery and supporters sitting out enjoying homemade refreshments.
The Active retired group hosted the Holy Rosary at Tubrid Well on Bank Holiday Monday at 11 am. And a very large crowd attended, afterwards they went to support Mary’s Coffee Day in Laught.
Please bear in mind that the Holy Rosary will be recited at Tubrid Well every evening at 7 o’clock during the month of May.

The organisers of the annual Divine Mercy Novena which ran from Good Friday to the first Sunday after Easter, would like to thank all those who supported it in any way.

Our Vintage Club will hold a tractor run on Sunday next May 12th in aid of the Cullen Pipe Band. Register at Cullen GAA Grounds at 11 for a 12 o’clock take off. Finishing in Millstreet.

This year Millstreet Comhaltas are celebrating their 40th anniversary to mark the occasion. They will hold a gala Function at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Saturday May 25th. Celebrations will include, a meal, music, songs, dance and a CD Launch, Tickets will be available from the Parish Centre next Monday May 13th from, from 7 – 8 o’clock. All are welcome.

Millstreet Library will host Blue Grass Musician, Greg Blake, at 11 am on this Thursday May 9th, as part of the Bealtaine Festival.
And still on the same theme.The Millstreet Active Retired Group will host their annual Tea Dance on May 12th at Wallis Arms Hotel from 2,30 to 5.30 ,Admission €5. As a special treat the Millstreet/ Kanturk Red Cross, will provide free therapeutic hand massage. All are welcome. Both men and women.

As part of road future restructuring, many of our local narrow bridges and bends will be changed,and the Aubane Social Club are calling a public meeting on Tuesday May 14th in relation to the condition of the Tooreenbawn road as well as the Bridge at the old Aubane Creamery.
