Millstreet is on a high at the moment with all the lovely things that are happening. The annual Stretcher race was held on Sunday and it created much needed merriment and laughter. This year it was in aid of Luke O’Donoghue whom will represent Ireland in the World Fly Fishing Championships in Czechoslovakia. Starting out from the Bush Bar up to 10 stretchers took part. The variety of colour and regalia only went to prove the efforts that people will go to in the name of homegrown entertainment. The merriment went on and on after the race was over with the warm sunshine adding to the happy scene. Well done to all concerned.
But the best is still to come with the mighty International Mounted Games Championships rolling into the Green Glens from July 8th to 14th.
Millstreet is all set for the official opening parade which will be held in the town this evening at 7.( Tuesday July 9th). The Pipe Band will lead the parade of 17 European Countries through the town and the official opening will be declared in the Town Square. Followed by music and a wonderful international social evening.
The Mounted Games were held here in 2016 and because of the wonderful welcome that we gave them then, they are back bigger and better than before. Those who came went back to their own countries and spread the good name of Millstreet all over Europe. So let us pull out all the stops this evening and give Europe an even bigger and better céad míle fáilte than before. The Parade starts at 7 pm and all are welcome.
The Show will continue at the Green Glens until July 14th and during these Summer Holidays its the ideal place to take the children where they will see youngsters like themselves carrying out some classic fetes on horseback. And the good news is that admission is free. So don’t miss it.
The new seating around the town is providing a wonderful place where our visitors from many lands can sit and observe the scene, meet the local people and relax in pleasant surroundings.
What goes around comes around. All our lives we’ve been giving our pennies for the black babies. Sending our priests and nuns to spread the message of God. In Africa and to educate young men for the priesthood and in a strange turn of events we are now in need of priests ourselves and to help our overworked Padres. His Lordship Bishop Ray has invited two priests from Kenya in Africa to work in the Diocese of Kerry for three years. They will be based at St Johns in Tralee, Fr. Vitalis Barasa has already taken up residence and Fr. Amos Ruto is due in the near future. So let us be ready to give them a real Irish welcome.
Our Parish Finance Council will hold a meeting in the Presbytery on Thursday, July 11, at 8.15.
Cullen and District Special Needs Association will hold their annual Harvest Day on July 21. Helpers always welcome.
Millstreet Gramophone Circle Meeting this Friday night July 12 at the Canon O Donovan Centre. Starting at 8.15. Presenter Con Kelleher Cloghoula. All Welcome.
Millstreet Hospital annual church Gate Collection will be taken up this weekend, July 13/14. Please support them well.
A special Mass will be held at Aubane Grotto on Fri, July 26, in honour of the 40th anniversary of this Holy Place.

The Family Vocations Community who are based at Blackrock Road in Cork are holding a special Mass in our Church this evening. Our own Fr. Dan Cashman and Bishop Tim Carroll belong to this society. They have a number of people on their list who contribute €15 a year towards the education of Priests in Africa. Everybody including their local supporters are invited to this Mass and it will be followed by refreshments in the Hall. The Mass starts at 7.30
Eucharistic Adoration continues every week in Millstreet Church on Tuesday and Wednesdays from 10,30 am to 10.30 pm in Cullen on Thursdays From 10 am to 7 pm and in Ballydaly on Saturdays from 10.30 to 12.30. Please spare a little time for the Lord. Confessions in Millstreet every Saturday from 12.30 to 1.
