Thanks to Brian Kiely for sending in photos of the snow and ice on Christmas Morning from the frozen over Blackwater and also on top of Clara. All the photos are below.
“I took a few picture on Christmas Day down by the Blackwater which I would like to share with you. in these photos are Finbarr O’Riordan (in the green top) from Dromsicane, Millstreet and myself from Station Road (green hat). There are pictures of Finbarr admiring his home place (River view house) from the unusually frozen Blackwater… A few more pictures from the top of Clara montain on Christmas morning. Just to reiterate what many groups have warned “that walking on frozen rivers can be very dangerous” … but the last time the Blackwater froze over properly was after the Battle of Kinsale in 1601, so what are the chances we’ll have to wait another 400 years to walk on it again?
Apparently there was a small game of Ice Hockey (with hurleys) on the river as well!
