The lashing snowy rain and high winds and thunder and lightening didn’t deter our St.Vincent de Paul committee from hosting their annual church gate collection at the weekend. They took refuge in the church porch which gave them a degree of shelter but it was still a trying task. And now that the collection is over, their work is only beginning. We are indeed indebted to this dedicated group who carry out this work every year. They work tirelessly to bring help to many in accordance with the various needs. And their work goes on right up to the last minute on Christmas Night. Their main concern is that some people might be left out, so they are asking those who are in need to let them know. Every case will be dealt with in strictest privacy and respect.

Christmas Parties are being held at a great rate all over the place and I havn’t a hope of keeping pace with them all. The people of Aubane held theirs on Friday night. The Mass was said by Canon John, the Church choir attended and the readings were done by the people of the locality. In his homily the Canon praised the efforts of the local committee for the great work they do in keeping rural Ireland and its customs and folklore alive and well. A large crowd attended and there were a few newcomers, some from other lands and the closeness of the event gave rise to new friendships and conversation. Following the mouthwatering refreshments, the Colmhaltas Group took the stage and played some lilting music that set some toes a-tapping. Following that we had local beauty, Breda Moynihan ,better known as a Diamond Sister and she had us all joining in at a rousing sing-song. We had young children and some bordering 90, all enjoying the same entertainment in a close and friendly setting, how could you ask for more. Many thanks to the people of Aubane and long may their Social Centre continue to flourish.
Meanwhile over in Cullen on Saturday the Special needs association held their 39th annual Christmas Mass and Party, with most of the committee including Dr. Pat Casey still helping after all those years. They had their own priest Fr. Anthony O’Keeffe to say their Mass which included many hymns and Carols. Needless to say the Mass was followed by some lovely refreshments washed down with fine hot tea. The Hall was beautifully decorated with decorations. Some were donated and sent by friends all the way from the USA. Members of the Red Cross provided soothing hand massage for anybody who wished to avail of it. A DJ had everybody out on the floor dancing the hours away and each special person was given a lovely Christmas Gift before going to their buses as the early evening light was waning. A beautiful end to a wonderful Christmas Party.
Still with Cullen, their Hall Committee will host a Concert given by the popular Duhallow Choral Society in their church on Friday night December 13th . Tickets are on sale at the Creamery Store.

It’s great to see efforts being made to resurrect the great farming body Macra na Feirme. A meeting was held at Corkery’s Bar during the week . Macra is a wonderful body of rural people but not confined to them in any way. And in light of the isolation and loneliness that has gripped our countryside in recent years, I can see this organisation doing wonders to combat these difficulties. Please support them well.
The Text Alert Project in conjunction with our Gardai is now renewed for 2020 and the organisers Marie Twomey, (Priests Cross) and Dan Collins (The Tanyard) are very pleased with the response from the public. With many new people coming on board. They would like to say many thanks to Robert and Dorothy Guerin, Ballydaly shop and to Niamh Twomey and her staff at Wordsworth for providing great service to our Community for facilitating the distribution and collection of the forms. The data base 2020 will be updated on January 1st.
The monthly meeting of the Community Council will be held tonight at the Wallis Arms Hotel starting at 8. Please take note that the 2020 calendar which is organised by the Community Council is now in the Shops at €7 each and proving very popular. Proceeds go to the Children’s Playground Fund.
In excess of eighty members of our Active retired Group are joining their counterparts in Macroom today for a meal and dancing at the Castle Hotel.
WE have two 5th year students from the Community School namely Hanna Keane and Ria Buckley who are going to Lourdes at Easter as helpers. They are holding a bake sale to help raise some funds to cover the costs at the Parish Centre this Saturday Night December 14th after Mass. Please support them well.
The Saturday night Mass in Millstreet, this weekend will be for children who are preparing for their First Holy Communion and their parents and friends. It will be held in Cullen on Sunday at 10.15 The Community Singers will attend in Millstreet on Saturday night.
